I\'ve come rather late to this, as I hadn\'t noticed the BBC project had stopped running - it\'s taken me months for me to think \"hold on a mo, it\'s ages since I\'ve actually seen this thing running\"! Anyway, have switched to the new version of BOINC and attached as an existing user to the climateprediction.net site. My query is, what happened to all the work my PC has already done? Has that been a complete waste of time, or is there anyway for me to continue from that point - BOINC is now running again on my PC but seems to be starting from scratch. |

Hi John, welcome to CPDN and to this forum! The work you (or your computer!) did in BBC is absolutely not wasted, all the data you sent while you were running it will be useful. If your BBC model didn\'t actually crash, you could have continued running it, even though the BBC\'s no longer involved - many of us are still finishing off BBC models. There are useful posts you should read to help you get the most out of your computer\'s time spent crunching this project. You\'ll find those here Happy crunching and good luck with your new model! See in your account: BBC Experiment 22,032.00 Since I didn\'t do any BBC, I believe this represents about half of the unit done. It must have crashed for some reason or another. I don\'t know how to look up any more information, but as you can see you got credit, and got it partially done. I just looked, your computer has only 512M memory. Now this is the minimum amount of memory needed for this project. I would suggest you not use the \"screen saver\" part of BOINC, and you will be safer from crashing the model. Getting more memory would help some, also. |
