The Ps3 is now able to run another projects, for DNA research through a BOINC like interface, so it runs it when no ames are being played and the system is idle. I play alot more of the Xbox 360, but there are times I have it on and it\'s doign nothing. There is no excuse why CPDN and STETI won\'t utilize this. It\'s simple. There is a XNA part of the Xbox 360 program that any developer can submit programs. It could easily run on the Xbox 360. Get Microsoft involved. The Software to run it could easily be distributed via XBOX live market place. The key thing is to make it so the programs uses all 3 cores of the processor. This would help alot. Even when watchign a movie, the other cores coudl be crunchign data (they did a simliar test so this would work so well). In system tests, hen watchig nan DVD or HD-Dvd, 2 cores are idle and not used. It\'s time to use them! |

That\'s an awesome idea. I\'m looking forward for this! |

It does sound nice. However, there are practical difficulties in making it happen. Most distributed computing applications are relatively small and get their power from having many thousands of computers apply a relatively simple algorithm to slightly different data sets in a short calculation. CPDN is rather different: its application is enormous (~1,000,000 lines of code), it uses and creates a large amount of data, and its calculation times are long. Neither is it easy to make parallel. I don\'t think there\'s much prospect of all those problems be solved any time soon. |
