Yes, I read about the wierd problem with messages missing from the Messages tab. It hasn\'t happened to me, so I don\'t know what the problem is. There IS important science data in the trickles; they contain data for the past year. There is a lot more contained in the 10 year zips, and even more in the 40 year zips. The latter also contain data to allow a future model to be started from these 40 year points, although currently only an 80 year re-start is being run. Or perhaps that shoud be: is being tested on the beta site. There are so many climate sub-projects that I\'m starting to lose track. :( This project started before BOINC was released, and the forum then was on a server at the Open University at Milton Keynes, about 40 miles NE of Oxford. When the project went BOINC, the original website was kept because of the large amount of information stored there. It is still used as a backup to these BOINC boards; when one is down, the other is still available. Most of the regulars prefere to post there because it\'s much more versatle than this one. Separate registration is required to post there because it IS a separate entity. Models (more accurately, \'datasets\'), can be issued several times for a variety of reasons, usually because of a deliberate decision by the researchers. If you have one that\'s already currently being crunched by someone else, that\'s fine; keep going. 5 Gig models: very serious. They are high resolution models, using smaller \'data cells\' to get finer detail in the atmosphere. They\'re based on a different Met Office program, and won\'t replace the current models. I think that one of the hoped for results will be to allow the effect of clouds to be studied in more detail, but info about the Why & What will be posted when the time comes. In fact there are other models planned that are \'about\' the same size as at present, as well as the possibility of models along the lines of the \'slightly\' enhanced SAP models. |

Thnks Les, As for the missing log entries in the Msgtab, fumbled around with the log flags switching them on and off, made backup, reinstalled 5.10.13 and now they show, but beats me why as comparing the flags they are now entirely the same as before the reinstall.... my French got excersized today :O |

Regarding mail versus forum postings for help: Forum postings are usually the best way to go, because everyone can look at the question and offer advice. I tried to do email support for a bit but gave up because it\'s so much harder when people like Les, Mo, Marj, Crandles, AstroWX and everyone else aren\'t there to pitch in with advice. Much quicker to get a response on the forum as well (a few minutes versus a day or two). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

5GB models? That\'s probably when we\'ll see 64-bit code-base, because then you have to use 64-bits to address that much memory. I hope that sucker is multi-threaded! But could you image a 2 or 3 year deadline for a workunit? |

Well what\'s the point.... I can post here so i found out by coincidence, but not on the main one as noted in my original post ;>) @DJstarfox, I understand that the development of BOINC is going in that direction of catering for SMP... was in the same 5gb message. |

The Big Ones will be shorter; more like the one year SAP models. So probably still only a one year deadline. |

Hello, So I was hoping to confirm that everyone with this problem is waiting on something that will actually happen. In other words, if the server side code is broken, is there someone fixing it? Assuming there is, what would be the ETA on fix? I\'ve been receiving the Message from server: platform \'windows_x86_64\' not found for at least the past few months. It\'s also a problem with at least one other BOINC project I crunch for, Einstein@home. I think it started happening with an upgrade to BOINC 5.10.13, but can\'t confirm. I also tried installing the 32-bit executable and of course my 30% complete climatepediction work units are not present (fortunately they didn\'t get wiped away shen I re-installed the Win-x64 BOINC exe.) Any pointers would be great, thank you! -Brad |

When you say you installed the 32-bit executable, was this 5.10.x 32-bit, or 5.8.x 32-bit? The 5.10.x should be OK when moving to 32-bit from 64-bit (but if you go to 5.8.x 32-bit from 64-bit, it wipes out the current workunits). The current recommendation for people with this problem is to install 5.10.x 32-bit. In the last few days I gather the beta site has started accepting the 64 bit identifier, but not running it myself I can\'t say (I use linux 5.10.x 32-bit on my openSUSE 64-bit system). Hello, It was the 5.10.13 32-bit for XP and below. I am willing to try again but suspect I\'ll get the same result. I just want to get this fixed so I can continue with my climateprediction crunching...I don\'t want to spend cpu cycles and power on something that\'s going to get wiped out unintentially. Also wondering if anyone has had success installing and running the BOINC client on Solaris. I tried a few months ago, but wasn\'t able to locate a clean and easy install process. That\'s probably an item for a different forum though. -Brad |

UPDATE... Just for giggles, I installed the 5.10.18 for WinXP x64 and get the same result in the messages (...x86_64 not found) confirmed by pushing update on the climateprediction and Einstein@home projects through BOINC. I\'m running a dual Opteron 275 box with WinXP x64/Solaris 10 dual boot. Like I said, I can try 5.10.13 for XP Pro 32-bit again, but I don\'t think it will matter. For completeness, I just booted my dual Opteron 290 box running Vista Ultimate 64-bit and 5.10.13...same results (platform \'windows_x86_64\' not found.) -Brad

I\'m getting the \"platform \'windows_x86_64\' not found\" as well.
Does this mean my trickle is sent or not? The last contact according to my profile was 3. Juli. I\'d prefer to just let it continue crunching if possible. I\'m 26% into a WU so I don\'t fancy the idea of cancelling. |

Did you read MikeMarsUK\'s post in this Thread? Did you try the 32-bit core client? "We have met the enemy and he is us." -- Pogo Greetings from coastal Washington state, the scenic US Pacific Northwest. |

I have not tried the 32 bit client. I would prefer to stick to the 64 bit one unless it is causing any issues with the results, as my other projects are running along nicely. Getting those warnings did not cause me any great alarm. Finding out that no contact has been registered since the mentioned date did! Would this be a problem with 64 bit Boinc as well? |

Have you got any projects which actually use 64-bit code? (ABC@Home is the only one I\'m aware of). I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

None that I\'m aware of. |

In that case I\'d recommend the 32-bit 5.10.x client, the reason being that it\'ll work just as well as the 64-bit client, and will be compatible with more projects. Take a backup of Boinc just before changing to the new manager (just in case). Once all the projects have updated their backend (serverside) code to allow the 64-bit platform as an option, then both will work. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. I removed the 5.10.18/5.10.13 64-bit, installed the 32-bit and successfuly restored my workunits from backup as suggested (with some minor back & forth playtesting.) It will be nice once the projects are updated to support the new HW platform profiles though. I found that the benchmarks (and probably the effective work engine) were much more favorable with the 5.10.18 x64 BOINC client. Thanks for the help and pointers! -Brad |

It would be quite helpful if CPDN would just upgrade the server software in order to support the official x64 Windows client. The new server software sends the 32-bit application to such clients if the project doesn\'t provide 64-bit applications. Thanks. |

It\'s not necessary to write the same message to multiple threads, we can read you know :-) CPDN will get around to that at some point, but there are very few people (one) there at the moment, and time tends to get taken up with firefighting. Hey, I was hoping I could get an update on when the server software will be updated to support 64bit clients. And no, I won\'t switch back to the 32 bit client, as some of the projects I run do use 64 bit apps. Thanks. |
