Suddenly packets require a very large amount of memory - 3/18/2008 8:04:17 PM|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Your computer has 958.48MB of memory, and a job requires 1464.84MB I have my preferences set to not select the large memory work units - selected only the two smaller work units. But I do not get anything - does anyone know what happened? |

There\'s probably several parts to your problem. 1) The memory message is sent regardless of which model is selected. This is a limitation of the server software. 2) You\'ve had a LOT of models fail soon after starting, and of the ones that I looked at, it was with: exit code -1073741819 (0xc0000005). This is usually a display problem, and there are several possible causes: A) The driver for the graphics card needs to be updated. B) Altering the size of the displayed globe, when the computer is short on memory, such as when there ISN\'T any display card, and some of the main memory is being used. C) Shutting down Windows / the computer, without first shutting down BOINC. 3) You may not be getting any more models because: A) You\'ve reached your daily quota, in which case there will be a message in the Messages tab. B) The climate project has been run for a long time, and now BOINC is giving your other projects their fair share of time. Backups: Here |

yes, recently the last several have terminated very quickly, but my computer is less than two years old. I would think that the graphic card is adequate... How do I - Alter the size of the displayed globe, when the computer is short on memory, such as when there ISN\'T any display card, and some of the main memory is being used. Thanks |

You mean that by \"Shutting down Windows / the computer, without first shutting down BOINC.\" will cause problems? This is the first time I have ever heard of this... Thanks Again!!! |

[Deno Tufares, Jr wrote:] yes, recently the last several have terminated very quickly, but my computer is less than two years old. I would think that the graphic card is adequate... Problems with video cards come from two main sources: drivers that are out-of-date for some reason (people have found that updating the drivers cures crash problems), and built-in video cards that don\'t have their own RAM but use the system RAM instead. In this latter case, displaying or maximising the graphics may change the amount of memory required and cause a crash. Your Celeron seems to have lots of memory, but it depends how the machine is used. The Pentium has 512 MB, which might be a bit tight if other things are running when the graphics are displayed - since the machine is a fast one, it might be worth adding another stick of RAM. The advice here is to avoid using the screensaver, as it slows the model down. Instead, show the graphics from BOINC Manager - and don\'t do even that if the machine is being heavily used. |

Shutting down is particularly a problem with Vista. Your machines have XP but, even then, there can be problems if the machine stops quickly (or if it starts slowly). I think it\'s good practice to suspend the model and quit BOINC whenever the machine is closed down - though you have to remember to resume the model when the machine is restarted. |

I can testify how important it is to exit the boinc manager before shutting down Windows. I have lost WU’s in the past because I forgot to do so on my XP machine. Frequent backups can turn this disaster into only a minor setback. |

Hello, I\'m new to this project, but the message is the same you had have. So strange, due to I actually have 1GB of memory, and the system requirements are 512 MB. My processor is a AMD Semprom +3000. I noticed that CMDN worked in an older processor, an AMD K62 500MHz. Whats the problem? |

By \'CMDN\', I assume you mean CPDN. (I mention it because we occasionally see a message relating to another Project and I\'m not current with other project IDs.) By same message, do you mean something like: Your computer has 958.48MB of memory, and a job requires 1464.84MB? If so, your machine, which has one Gig of memory, doesn\'t have enough to run the HadAM3 Model -- and your Preferences allow download of that Model. So, you get the message. The solution is to go to \'Your account\' (link in the blue, at left) and change your choice of Models to exclude HadAM3. Thanks a lot, It was CPDN. And yes, you was right, I don\'t know how the program can takes the HadAM3 model automatically. Even that fail of memory, it\'s actually working with my Giga of memory! |
