I recently started running a BOINC climate model on my PC. I am also running Zone Alarm. While BOINC is processing, the Zone Alarm logo in the task bar flashes as if data is being transferred over the internet. This is happening even if no data is being transferred from my computer to the server. Is this expected behavior? Is there any way to stop it from flashing? Thank you. |

Is this expected behavior? Yes. The traffic that you\'re seeing is between the gui, (the visible part), and the worker, or daemon, (the invisible part), of BOINC. Is there any way to stop it from flashing? If it\'s producing warning messages, these can be stopped by setting the options in Zone Alarm to accept the various parts of BOINC as \"trusted\". I don\'t know if this will also stop the flashing. Backups: Here |

The popups aren\'t an issue. While its running, the icon in the task bar is flashing the red and green traffic indicators. I just found it annoying, and wondered if I could stop it from continuously flashing. Thank you |

BOINC is 2 parts, the client, which downloads, runs the programs that process the data, uploads and reports and the manager, which is the GUI. Those two programs talk via tcp/ip on localhost. This is what you are seeing. If you have ZoneAlarm ignore localhost this will stop. If you installed as a service you can also stop the GUI and only use it when you need it. |
