I just downloaded the 64 bit version of the slab model (hadsm3) to my Linux box. There was a message in red from the server: \"Message from server, Your computer has 972.16MB of memory, and job requires 1464.84MB.\" The job started running OK and the \"top\" command tells me the job is using 106 MB of virtual and 46 MB of resident memory. It therefore looks to me as if the server is asking for ten times more memory than is actually needed, which for those of us with small machines is rather discouraging. If I\'m correct is it possible for someone to put things right? |

It is a confusing message, but it refers to a different model type (HadAM3), not the one you actually downloaded. If you had the extra memory, you would may have received a HadAM3 rather than the HadSM3. I'm a volunteer and my views are my own. News and Announcements and FAQ |

It\'s just a problem with the software being unable to send different messages for different models. The model requiring the large amount of memory is the hi-res HADAM3 type. It\'s set this high for when this model type is selected on Windows running Vista. There are only 2 things that you can do: 1) Increase the ram to 1.5 Gigs 2) Make sure that you make a deliberate selection in your Account prefs for the slab models, and that the HADAM3 type is NOT ticked. Even with 2), you may still get the message. edit And now you have 2 answers. :) Backups: Here |
