I installed BOINC on most of our computers using the Windows Service Client boinc_cli.exe and it seems to run perfect. - Is it possible to control and manipulate the work which is done by the client the same way like the BOINC GUI does (for instance \"reset the project\")? - I don\'t see any eventlog entries. Where does boinc_cli log to? - How do you run BOINC on windows. Never log out? Regards, Chris |

Hi Chris, I'm running BOINC_GUI as a service; thats working fine. Your question about "Never log out" is the point: It is forbidden in our office to use logout! People have to "restart" when they leave. After they got used to it, it works really fine ! Where the eventlog goes, I don't know for the cli. But, if you want to configure / watch your clients remotely, you could use BOINCView Supporting BOINC, because it is really a great concept ! |

Hi Chris, When you run boinc_cli.exe as a service the output goes straight to the bit bucket. Too many people (myself included) complained about the difficulty of finding anything useful in the application event log because of the number of messages BOINC was writing there. The "solution" from the BOINC developers was to chuck it all away, but hopefully that's only until they come up with a solution that strikes a happy balance. Join us here |

Hello !!! In my case the Win Service client command "boinc_cli.exe -install" works very well because I can see the service started with Task Manager, but no computation is performed at all. The Idle Process keeps having 99% of CPU. It is obviously that even the service is started, no computation is performed. One reason I could imagine was that the BOINC directory did not allow suficient rights. Well, I did put full rights to "everyone" group, but no change could be seen, even if I stopped the service and restarted back and even if I restarted the entire system. I hope someone comes with an ideea or something I did wrong or I even didn't. Thanks, Cristian PS : boinc_gui.exe works perfectly. |
