Hello 1) Is there any speed advantage in upgrading from Boinc 5.8.16 to 5.10.45? 2) I have a really massive UK Met Office HadSM3 Slab Model 5.06 that appears to need 10,000 hours to complete. What is the scope of these models? It is running on a machine that only has 2-3 hrs use a day. At some time I\'d like to transfer it to my main PC. Unfortunately I forgot to select no new tasks on the main PC so it has just started two new models. They should complete in 3 to 4 months so I will transfer then. FYI my current Boinc versions have been stable on Vista SP1. Thanks Digby |

There is no way your listed computer (E6400) should take 10,000 hours to complete a slab model. More like 300 hrs or less is likely. It\'s possible your model has turned into a slow-processing iceball. See this thread for more details. It does appear that your task here is likely such a model. Aside from that, the newer version of boinc does not help processing speed. |

OK. Thanks for coming back to me. I decided to cancel the model because it seemed to be in a tailspin... I just re-installed Boinc on a new installation and everything seems ok so far running one old model and one new one. Thanks Geophi Digby |
