My task (ID 7903762) was flagged as \"Client Detached\". No doubt this was because I had temporarily rebooted to an external bootable backup HD, which was running an earlier OSX 10.4 instead of 10.5, as is my internal drive. Anyway, as my task was nearing completion, and trickles surprisingly seemed to be uploading (according to the \"messages\" pane)l when I subsequently rebooted to the original internal HD on my MacBook Pro, I let it continue. Much to my amazement, it completed (i.e. with same final credit in \"My Account\" with similar task successes). Nevertheless, it was still flagged as \"Client Detached\". Very strange. But, it seems that my efforts were not in vain after I had got over 90% of the task completed!!!! And the date reported is still shown as the date when it got originally flagged as \"Client Detached\", even though the later trickles had still been accumulated. So. Don\'t give up, anyone else who does the same as I did. Keith |

\"Client Detached\" is what people get now, instead of a new Computer ID, when they change the configuration of a computer, in this case the change in OS. |

Thanks Les for that explanation. But I did not get that flagged when I upgraded from 10.4 to 10.5 strangely enough. Only when switching back to 10.4 on an external drive from 10.5. It was certainly confusing, and would persuade many to abandon the task, as I nearly did. It is a pity that the task could not be re-flagged as re-attached, for that is obviously what did happen. Keith PS I admire the way that you seem to be servicing the whole planet with your helpful replies About time they struck a medal for you!!! |

BOINC (server side) has some kind of host ID forwarding, when it assigns a new host ID. When a new host record is created for an existing host, BOINC leaves a trace in the old host record that points to the new record. If I recall right, it is the negative new host ID value in a database attribute, that is usually used for something completely different, while a host is active. Something like \"if it\'s positive, it is a user ID, if it\'s negative, it is a host ID forward\" (I don\'t remember if it really was the user ID, this is just how it basically works) I didn\'t go through all relevant source modules, but this sure explains why the trickles (and credits) still arrive, even if you connect with an outdated host ID. CPDN isn\'t so picky with host IDs anyway, the project allows to download a model on one host, transfer it to a different one later and finish it there. |
