My computer, or the program crashed while running the simulation and now has disappeared off my task list. I have tried updating but nothing seems to happen. I guess I\'ve lost what has been finished to that point, but am wondering why a new one hasn\'t loaded. It\'s been a few days.

Thanks for any help.

It might be as I said in reply to your previous post: BOINC \"owes\" your other projects crunching time, because of time it spent on the long climate model.

Unless you have NO tasks at all in the Tasks tab of the manager, it\'s just a matter of waiting for BOINC to allocate more time for another climate model.
The more projects you have, the longer it can be before another work unit shows up for a particular project.

forrtl: Access is denied.
CPDN process is not running, exiting, bRetVal = 1, checkPID=0, selfPID=5096, iMonCtr=1
Model crash detected, will try to restart..

I wonder if this could be a BOINC 6.x issue.

Les has some helpful links in his signature, those forum threads might help avoid this problem on your next model.

Thank you, we\'ll see what happens. I\'ve bookmarked the FAQ pages. I Keep forgetting how to find this stuff as mostly Boinc does its thing, I look at the pretty pictures now and again and that\'s pretty much the extent of it. I will certainly make a habit of backing up the files when a new unit comes my way. Certainly, I\'ve never shut it off when the virus scan kicks in, but will shut it down if I am doing something which uses more RAM.

Hi Nora

The best idea is to back up the complete contents of the BOINC folder (or the BOINC Data folder if you have BOINC 6) regularly, not just when you first get a new model. If you need to restore a model after it has crashed you have to recrunch it from the point when the backup was made, so the more recent your restored backup is, the less repeat crunching you have to do.

Maybe you already knew that, but from your post I wasn\'t sure.

It's probably also the only project that needs to be shut down carefully BEFORE turning off the computer.

As is well know, these are based on the supercomputer programs run by the UK Met Office, and they don't take kindly to being shut down abruptly. The many files that are open during running need a small amount of time to close gracefully.
