We (or perhaps I) desperately need a thread for questions apparently so dumb that we\'re too embarrassed to ask them anywhere else. It\'s for use by all CPDN members who refuse to let their lives and reputations be circumscribed or blighted by feelings of inferiority, ignorance or shame. Cpdn news |

My Google search page has stored my past 10 months of searches. For example, if I type t in the search box it offers tetris and all the CPDN spammers I\'ve researched whose names begin with t. I urgently need to dissociate myself from certain spammers\' names eg Test******** in case my computer is used by a visitor who types t. I once deleted all my previous searches but can\'t remember how I did it. Does anyone know how? Cpdn news |

Google now does a smart search. It is not memorizing anything anymore. To clear cached data like that for other sites, on FF you go to Tools and \"Clear Private Data\". On other browsers I forget, I think IE has it under Internet Options someplace. I don\'t use any others. |

Thanks, that worked! In IE it is indeed in the internet options so I\'ll be able to tackle what\'s stored in Safari and FF in a similar way. I\'d been looking for a way to do this on the Google page itself and for several months.... Cpdn news |

Does anyone know whether there\'s a way of sending an email so that I am informed when the recipient opens it? (I\'m not contemplating using any such option for CPDN!) Cpdn news |

Hi Mo I just had a look in Outlook Express, and when you click on New Message, in the menu of this window, under Tools there\'s Request Read Receipt. |

Recipients aren\'t obliged to respond to read receipt requests. I\'ve got Thunderbird set to never send a receipt if I\'m not in the list of To or Cc recipients and ask me for every domain except for work. I don\'t normally respond to read-requests, especially work. If it\'s important that\'s what the telephone service is for, otherwise assume it\'s read or ask for an active reply. I\'d only ever contemplate using read-requests for consultant staff who are in the running for the annual \"Lord Lucan\" and \"Scarlet Pimpernel\" awards. Maybe your audience fits these two award criteria? EDIT: FYI, both \'read-request\' and \'Out-of-Office\' are used by spammers to confirm active mail addresses. We get around 2 million spam messages a day to filter, hence the policy that bans external sending of \'O-o-O\' and limit \'read-request\' replies. |

The audience is just one slightly batty person who doesn\'t ever pick up the phone when I call. Her husband long ago took the line of least resistance and stopped doing anything she doesn\'t want to do herself, so he\'ll never answer my phone calls either. I\'m just trying to work out whether he\'s in nominal control of his/their email account and is allowed to open my messages. I\'ve been trying to get news to them that they really need to know. Desperate measures for desperate times. Thanks everyone, I\'d never noticed that option in Outlook Express. Cpdn news |

I think that fits the \"Lord Lucan\" option. You should also be able to ask for a \'delivery\' receipt in the \'options\' of an Outlook message, at least you would know if the mailbox is still enabled. Good luck on tracking down your friends. |
