Hi, I\'m new to BOINC/CPDN and have a setup question. I joined a few weeks ago (1/3) and decided a couple of days ago to start my own team to get some of my co-workers engaged. I went to the Berkley BOINC-Wide Teams to create the team (CMC - Community Med Ctrs) and see that it did propagate to numerous projects, but not CPDN. Any ideas? Thanks in advance - Jack |

Hi Jack, welcome to the forum. When the BOINC-wide team mechanisms were first set up there were quite a few problems and a lot of controversy. If I remember correctly we asked our administrators in Oxford to disable the whole thing on CPDN for the time being. It must still be disabled. Now that the whole BOINC-wide team system is much more soundly implemented by BOINC it would probably be a good idea for us to reconsider our previous decision. Do you mind if I wait to reopen this discussion with the other moderators and Milo in Oxford until he\'s managed to sort out a couple of big current problems? Comments from members of other teams are very welcome. Cpdn news |

In hindight after posting my response, I wonder, when I first joined this project I used the join a team function to find and join team USA - which I also joined on World Community Grid. How is team USA setup to be across multiple projects? The points I get from both project do come together for me in my stats so they are joined somehow, right? And is there something (like USA) I can do in the interim until the BOINC-Wide team issue is resolved (assuming it does get resolved)? Thanks again! Jack |

I think a few people belong to different teams on different projects. The credits you earn all go to you as an individual as well as going to your team on each project. On CPDN if you change team your previously-earned credits stay with your original team. On other BOINC projects (all others as far as I know) if you change team you take your credits with you ie your original team loses them. You can register your team on CPDN from the link at the bottom of the CPDN team page. Cpdn news |

I think a few people belong to different teams on different projects. The credits you earn all go to you as an individual as well as going to your team on each project. Actually, I think it is the opposite of that. On cpdn, if you change teams, your credits go with you, unlike other boinc projects. |

You can register your team on CPDN from the link at the bottom of the CPDN team page. Right, I saw that link. But won\'t that make two separate teams (even if I use the same name) to all of the BOINC stat programs that gather the data? Or is there a way I can enter the Team ID I have already to get the scores to combine. Does this make any sense or am I missing something... |

How is team USA setup to be across multiple projects? Before the boinc wide teams idea was thought of, people just created teams on each project using the same name. It was because this was tedious, given the huge number of projects, that a \"once off create\" that would cause the same team to appear on all projects was requested. Which caused problems when the same team name already existed on some projects. This doesn\'t stop people from manually creating a team on each project of interest. It\'s the name that\'s important, as you\'ll find out if you make a spelling mistake on one of the projects. I think that it\'s also case sensitive. Backups: Here |

Thanks for the tip and insight, Les. I\'ll create the team on CPDN and see what happens if I cut-n-paste the info from my other projects. I guess if it doesn\'t synch properly its really no worse than today, right? :) Jack |

I see you\'ve created your team here. Within a couple of days the team on CPDN should also show up on your BoincStats page. Cpdn news |

I see you\'ve created your team here. Within a couple of days the team on CPDN should also show up on your BoincStats page. Hi Mo.v! I appreciate the patience and feedback. I\'m still trying to sort out how all of the BOINC stuff inter-connects etc. My team, is showing up on CPDN and on BOINstats - but not through the view your link points me to. I see zeros when I select the \"team If I go to my BOINCstats page, and select the team from there it takes me to this URL that looks to be getting the points from World Community Grid and CPDN. I\'m still reading through the forums and trying to figure out the difference between points granted by the projects and the \"credits\" being counted by BOINCstats and others. For example, the WCG website (My Grid) shows I have 29,248 (as I write this email), but BOINCstats has my WCG credit at 4178.40. Is there some sort of \"normalization\" that converts points in project to a more global credit standard? Jack |

Mo pointed you to your overall BOINCstats page. From there you can go to various other sub-pages, including the one for your combined BOINC team. Credits is credits. There\'s no normalizing. However, BOINCstats calculates their own credit values for RAC, using a different formula to cpdn. How WCG works out credits for their various sub-projects is something that you\'d have to ask them. SETI was the first BOINC project. (BOINC was created by the same people who created SETI.) cpdn based it\'s credit for the first climate models (\'slab\' models), on the amount of time it took \'back then\', so as to be as close as possible to the same credit for the same amount of work as them. Then the later models were based on the extra work effort needed. It\'s not perfect, but it\'s close. Some people complain in various places that other projects give too much/too little credit. Which is another matter. Your projects, as listed on your cpdn public account page, show: climateprediction.net 10,117 And BOINCstats show: Climate Prediction 10,994.90 Which is in reasonable agreement, given the time lags involved from your computer returning data to the projects for credits, and BOINCstats getting hold of the export files with all of the info, and then merging the data.
