hi from spain, i\'ve decided to move boinc from one computer to another, but i\'m sure i did it the wrong way; what i did was to install boinc on the other computer and abort the tasks running on boinc from the first computer. The second one is working fine, but as i try to uninstall boinc on the first computer and receive an error, i try to do something stupid: i deleted the installation in c:\\program files\\boinc and deleted the directory c:\\documents and settings\\all users\\application data\\boinc and deleted all registry entries i found by the keyword \"boinc\", now it\'s imposible to uninstall boinc or repair it, because access to the application data\\boinc directory is denied. Well that dosen\'t matter to me, what worries me is if the tasks my computer was processing have been re-assigned to someone else when i press the abort button... i know, i shouldn\'t play with computers, is there a possible solution, or is that a complete mess... thanks... |

Hi, and welcome to the message board. When the abort button is pressed the model is removed from your computer. The models are not showing up as aborted yet on the Web site, but they will eventually (if network activity was enabled). So, that\'s the end of those models - but there are plenty more! CPDN\'s model allocation system isn\'t very interactive: it creates a fixed number of models, sends them out and hopes a few will get to the end. It doesn\'t react to those that fail by issuing more. To move a BOINC installation from one computer to another, check this Read Me - towards the bottom. To clean up the machine with inaccessible folders left behind, you\'ll need to change the security permissions on the folder when logged on as an administrator. To finish off, re-install BOINC but don\'t attach to a project, then immediately uninstall: that should get rid of most stuff. |

The basis of moving BOINC data from one computer to another is first making a backup that when restored will actually run. A lot of us back up our Boinc Data folder regularly, so if a model crashes, we can restore the backup and run it again from that point. The files from the lost models that you sent to the server will still be used by the researchers even though the models didn\'t complete. Most new members lose a model (or a few!) while they learn how BOINC works. So don\'t be upset about that and take advantage of the situation by having a look at what\'s available in the READMEs.
