Boinc hang completely, the last line in stdoutae every time is

Then nothing for as many hours as I leave it, with no activity by other boinc projects and a dribble of cpu activity by boinc.exe
Before I resort to wiping out all trace of climateprediction.net, are there any better ideas?
No problems accessing http://climateprediction.net/ via browser

I'd looked at the server status page, which shows some of the upload servers out of action, but I'm assuming the 'Fetching scheduler list' line would be attempting to contact the scheduling server? In any case I'd expect something like the
"Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site"
message rather than hang boinc completely. I'm not convinced the problem is at the server end.

Could you please unhide your computer(s) for the time being so we can see from your project web pages some of what is or isn't going on. You'll need to do this in your account (blue menu on left). Nobody will be able to see anything confidential. If you click on my name you'll see the sort of pages that will be made available.

What version of BOINC have you got?

Are there any tasks from any project in your Tasks tab?

In your BOINC Manager Advanced menu > Preferences, if necessary increase the additional work buffer to 10 days > click OK. Then in the BM Projects tab highlight CPDN and click Update. Let us know whether that has any effect.
