Is there anything I should know about should I want to go from using the 32-bit version of BOINC to the 64-bit version of BOINC? Is it just like upgrading, or would I have to wait till all the tasks in the 32-bit edition were completed then convert?

I think that it should be similar to a simple upgrade, with one problem.
See this section of the BOINC Wiki for info on 32 bit needs in 64 bit BOINC.
