I had tried to add my BOINC drive to fstab, and ran into problems. Somehow I modified the permissions, and now I get the following messages when starting BOINC. 30-Jan-2010 16:44:32 [---] Can\'t rename client_state_next.xml to client_state.xml; check file and directory permissions 30-Jan-2010 16:44:32 [---] Couldn\'t write state file 30-Jan-2010 16:44:32 [---] Make sure directory permissions are set correctly What\'s up? What can I do to fix this? -Ian |

Not being able to write the client_state file is a permissions problem. The cure is to do what the message says, and check the permissions of the BOINC folders. There are several files in the main folder that need write permission, and lots in the project folders. Specifics will depend on what exactly you did wrong, and I\'m not all that familiar with Linux. You may need to un-install BOINC and then start again. Backups: Here |

Turns out that it was a file system corruption problem. Apparently I didn\'t mount the NTFS partition correctly in fstab. A CHKDSK set to search for and recover sectors as well as repair any damage to the filesystem resulted in everything functioning perfectly. -Ian |
