The blank screen has been sorted out - Jonathan pointed me in the direction of the offending code. This seems to be caused by trying to make the new anti-spam measures work with Tapatalk. I'm not an employee of CPDN. |

Hi, Got a 403 Forbidden error when I tried to access the climateprediction.net forum. I tried to access the forums a few minutes before posting this message. I live in China in case that makes any difference. I have never posted on that forum before so don't have a name in uses there. Regards Alex |

That's the web site for the original cpdn project from before BOINC. As such, it's not related, web site wise, to this BOINC part of cpdn, and so it does require a separate sign up. It's been kept because of the many older messages, and because it's more versatile than this board. It's also useful as a backup to this board, for if/when it's inaccessible. Backups: Here |

OK thanks. I ended up there from Google looking for a solution to a problem with uploading results. Anyway still doesn't explain the 403 error. Could this be something to do with my Chinese IP address? |

If you send your IP address to one of the moderators by private message on this board, we can check if it's in a blocked range. The PHP board is under constant attack by spammers and blocking IP ranges is one of the defences. Occasionally a legitimate user might also be stopped. |

Iain, Les, thanks for your help. Iain I'm pm'ing you my IP now. Unfortunately my IP is assigned by DHCP so changes every few days but I'm sending you my current one. Les, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I'm reading that thread now to see if it helps with my upload problem. |

Thanks, Alex. I don't see that address range banned in any of the lists to which I get access, but the project admins (i.e. not the board admins) have blacklists that are applied in the Oxford infrastructure, so I've passed on the range to them for an answer. |

Look in Cafe CPDN/BOINC projects? I reported a similar problem, my telecomitalia address range is blacklisted and since my IP address is dynamic it varies. I think this is unfair to me and I reported it to dr. David Anderson but he replied that he has no control over CPDN.I am running 6 other BOINC projects, including two from CERN. Tullio |

Bad news, Alex. That range is indeed blocked at the higher level. It was and likely still would be a prolific source of spamming. Unfortunately there's a trade-off here: spammers can easily overwhelm a message board unless drastic preventive measures are taken, but the result can be that entire IP ranges are sterilised, preventing legitimate users such as yourself from getting access. Tullio's range remains blocked partly because the ISP does not respond correctly to messages reporting abuse. ISP's need to behave responsibly or their customers will find their Web browsing restricted. Someone may come up with a method to get you around this problem next week when the project staff return, but it looks like an enduring problem so long as spammers are allowed to operate from safe havens. |

My telecomitalia webmail has a spam filter which blocks most spam messages so I don't get them on my disk. They are deleted after 20 days. Most of them are from beautiful Russian girls seeking a husband. Sorry. I am 77 and never answer them. Tullio |

I stopped using BOINC for some years ago, because I was unable to get any workunits from climateprediction. I started again now for some days ago but I am still not getting any workunits. I never complained about this before but I do now. I am running Einstein@Home, Milkyway@Home and Cosmology@Home but I prefer to use all my resources to climatepredictions. Am I blocked for some reason? Inge |

You're not getting any work because there isn't any, as can be seen by looking at the Server Status page, linked to in the blue menu to the left, 5 from the bottom. This has been the situation for several weeks now. A few data sets are being created, but with just under 36,000 computers connected to the project, these are grabbed immediately they appear. This has been mentioned in the News and Announcements thread near the top of the Number crunching section of this board. If you Subscribe to that thread, you'll get an email message every time a new post is made there. It's also being talked about now and then in some of the user threads in that section. Just look for the most recent few non-sticky threads there. Backups: Here |
