Hi, I've recently had to replace the hard drive on my IMac owing to a corruption problem which prevented backups and much else. Fortunately I was able to access and copy various directories including the BOINC data directory to an external drive after suspending the project in the manager. Having replaced the hard drive etc., I reinstalled BOINC, copied the BOINC data to the appropriate sub-directory, restarted BOINC, and resumed the project. (Same versions of OSX and BOINC) The work units showed up in the manager but with a status of :- 'Suspended - computation suspended'. I can't find any info. in the forums regarding this so was wondering what to do next. Advice appreciated. David, I have no MAC experience but assume similar boinc structure as with Win & LINUX. In Project tab, Status column should not say Suspended. If so, check the appropriate option on the left. In Activity heading, Suspend should not be flagged. If so, click one of the Run options. Hope that helps. Thanks for the reply - I should have added that the tasks had been 'Resumed' but showed this 'Suspended -computation suspended' in the Status column. It isn't the normal 'Task suspended by User' flag. David |

There are 3 Suspends: 1) In the Projects tab 2) In the Tasks tab 3) In the Menu Work on the WUs of one project will also be Suspended (or, perhaps, Waiting to run), if WUs from a different project start up at "Switch between tasks" time. If gpu work is being run, then cpu work gets Suspended (or perhaps some other label), when the number of cpus and/or memory gets exceeded. (gpus need cpus to feed them with data.) Finally, shutting down BOINC, then Exiting from it, and then restarting it, may help. Backups: Here |

Hi Les, Thanks for the info.. I missed resetting the menu option. I don't normally use it (hence not recognising the status message) but must have done when the hard drive problems started a month ago and then completely forgot!!! Regards David |

Hi Les, I seemed to have lost the Climate Prediction Task Ability with Berkeley on the Mac pro since an upgrade to SSDs since 25 may 2105. I have got a notification from you saying that the server cannot use Intel with this notice (amongst others): climate production.net:notice from server UK met Office HadAM3P and HadRM3P model with MOSES ll and TRIFFID Europe is not available for Mac OS Intel Which is a strange message since it was using Intel in OSX previously! Can you advise? John Wills |

It's explained in this post in Number Crunching: Future weather@home applications will only run on a single operating system: Windows, Linux or Mac - here's why... And, as can be seen from the Server Status page, (blue menu to the left, 5th from the bottom), there's currently no work available for the Mac. |

Yes, the intel bit of the message is redundant. I have had the equivalent on one of my Linux machines when the only models I had selected at the time weren't available for my OS. Fortunately, I wasn't persuaded to ditch my new machine in favour of getting one with an AMD CPU instead. |

Hello, my first post here. I just joined BOINC through ClimatePrediction.net last night and I have received the same messages 3 times since the inception of data analyses / calculations. What I want to know is whether it is worth proceeding or not. So, if anyone is familiar with this issue(s), please let me know. FWIW, I have Mac Pro (2008 8-core, 16GB RAM, Mac OS 10.9.5 Maverick, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB). The video card might be antiquated and saw the message "not to upgrade to CUDA 6.5," and I don't know what CUDA 6.5 is. Thank you. |

CUDA is a set of programs for using the video card to do science calculations. Video cards (GPUs), are not used in this project. If you want more, just do a search of the 'net for the word CUDA As for the "message", you'll have to tell us what it said, as there are hundreds of them. You may find it in the Event Log file, which you can activate from the menu in your BOINC manager. From there you can copy the line(s), and paste it/them into any part of this forum. Including this thread. |

Hi Les, thank you for the expeditious response. The original message was sent as a response to: Message 52068 re: Notice from Server: "climateprediction.net: Notice from Server UK Met Office HadCM3 short is not available for Mac OS X Intel" "climateprediction.net: Notice from Server UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Pacific North West is not available for Mac OS X Intel" "climateprediction.net: Notice from Server UK Met Office HadAM3P and HadRM3P model with MOSES II and TRIFFID Europe is not available for Mac OS X Intel" So far, I have received these messages 3 times each. What do they suggest? Is there a point to keep going on with the program calculation? If there is nothing to worry about, I will continue. Thank you again. |

OK, that's simple enough. There are a lot of different sub-projects that can be run; there's a list on the Server Status page, in the blue menu to the left, 5 from the bottom. It also tells you which of them has work, and for what OS. The messages are just BOINC telling you that it tried to get work from each of those, but none was available. This is a common situation with this climate project; work is from and for external researchers, and it's up to them when they have something that they want to look into. If there's none for a while, then your computer just has to wait. Something else that you should know about, is in a sticky post near the top of the Number Crunching section of this board: Future weather@home applications will only run on a single operating system: Windows, Linux or Mac - here's why... |

I see in Server Status that many are for Windows only. The one I have right now and is running is "UK Met Office HadAM3P-HadRM3P Australia New Zealand." I'll just leave as is (now 8.62% done). This must be pretty extensive analyses, it seems. It came with slightly <160 hours of remaining time. As for "Future weather applications to only run on a single operating system," I can understand. It's a sort of dilemma for them to produce the same set of software to different OSes whereas they probably feel could utilize the resource on something else. And, yes, I remember seeing slightly different figures between Windows and Mac OSes, though very minute. Maybe the way they round-up or down numbers are different, but not sure. I'm just wondering, since I can run the Windows off of VMWare Fusion, maybe I can also run Windows version simultaneously. I have W2K, XPs (2) and Vista, all except one XP version being English, the rest is in Japanese. Will it run, or has anyone tried? |

Haven't tried it as my boxes are both Linux and there has never been a long enough shortage of Linux work for me to look at using a VM. However everything I know suggests it should work. |
