I have currently suspended all tasks till I have some ideas about what to do next. one of the relevant tasks is here http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/result.php?resultid=14345809 It has been reported to Ubuntu as a bug http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com/msg3483047.html and I get the following message in the terminal I launch BOINC from LIBDBUSMENU-GLIB-WARNING **: Trying to remove a child that doesn't believe we're it's parent. And the, "Advanced" tab has gone from BOINC Manager since I upgraded to Ubuntu12.04. Clearly it is something to do with this upgrade but does anyone have ideas as to what I can try next? Oh and the File and Help tabs have also gone. Thanks Dave |

Am about to try the version from package manager to see if the problem still occurs though I couldn't get that to work properly last time I tried it. |

Now feel very studid - missing tabs due to the difference between xfce and gnome. downloading task @ present and will see shortly whether they fall over in the same way that they did installed in home dir. |

Ok seems fixed - since installing the repository version the other one in my home dir now has stopped crashing tasks though the error message in the terminal remains, still putting an & at the end when starting and then typing exit stops that annoying me. Dave |

I will note that I see this exact same behavior and messages when running BOINC 7.0.28 under Ubuntu 12.04. Lots of messages in the terminal window where I typed ./run_manager to start BOINC. Trying to remove a child that doesn't believe that we are its parent. This is not a symptom of the crashes. This has NOTHING to do with ClimatePrediction. I cannot run Climate Prediction in 64 bit Ubuntu, all tasks terminate with compute error. I am running Seti (CUDA), Milkyway (CPU and CUDA), Rosetta (CPU), and ABC@Home (CPU) successfully, and GPUGrid works some of the time. Downloads from ClimatePrediction are difficult, only 1 of the wus has been successfully downloaded and it terminated after 12 seconds of execution. Only by looking at the Task Results on ClimatePrediction or any other BOINC service web site will you be able to determine WHY your WUs failed to run. |

Using the stand alone version as opposed to the one from the package manager tasks are now completing fine here, I still get the messages in the terminal but have learned to ignore them. Graphics aren't working but I know that is an issue to do with my distro. Also Ubuntu12.04. I assume that when I installed the package version it installed some libraries that were needed. I didn't get the package version to run without crashing tasks and never worked out why but after installing it it the other one worked.I don't run any projects except cpdn so don't know if other projects would have worked without this. I seem to remember reading somewhere that some 32 bit libraries were needed for the cpdn tasks to run and it may be worth trying to track down the posts about that. Thanks Les. |

The post about 32 bit libraries is a sticky near the top of this Linux section of the board. It's called 64 bit Linux and CPDN And a model WILL fail at about 12 seconds without these libraries. Backups: Here |

Recently gone to Saucy Salamander from Raring Ringtail - the automatic update failed so I ended up breaking a few things including the folder with the models I was running in it. I followed the instructions for ensuring the relevant 32 bit libs were installed (sort of as I got a message for some of them saying they had been superseded by other packages which I installed.) This still didn't install libstdc++.so.6 which I remember now as one of the things I had to install last time around. Hopefully having now installed this and some other 32 bit libs that went with it, the next model I download will work! |

Dave, From a terminal window, in the .../projects/climateprediction.net directory, If you do an ldd hadcm3xxxxxx for each executable (obviously replace the xxxxxx with the rest of the program name), it will give you a list of any uninstalled dependencies for that executable. |

Here's what I needed to install for ubuntu saucy to get a clean ldd on the executables in the .../projects/climateprediction.net directory All with the **:i386 suffix libc6 libstdc++6 zlib1g libjpeg62 libgl1-mesa-glx libx11-6 libxext6 libxt6 libxmu6 libxi6 use apt-get install (Just paste the line above in) or aptitude or the GUI thing -- then check again with ldd as above, which will point you the right way for other distros also. Edit -- I won't use the beta version of BOINC that comes with saucy -- staying with 7.0.65 Recently gone to Saucy Salamander from Raring Ringtail - the automatic update failed so I ended up breaking a few things including the folder with the models I was running in it.
