A friend is interested in running CPDN, but she has limited broadband (10MB downloads per month). Will that be a problem? She normally use scarcely 2MB per month. Thanks |

Yes it will be a problem. Some of the files downloaded for a single model could be 10's of MB. Your friend should not run CPDN, but might consider a more generous broadband supplier: 10 MB per month is more like an old-fashioned mobile phone tariff than a broadband service. |

I just got an update from my friend: Doh! I looked up my BT service and I'd got things wrapped right round my neck. The download speed is up to 16Mb, the download total is 10GB and I'd be happy to pump that up to 40GB...that sounds more like it doesn't it? How does this look? Thanks |

That should be no problem, - I have a 20GB limit here and don't have any problems with 2 boxen albeit only 3 cores total and not running full time. CPDN on that basis only forms a small part of my traffic. Dave |

Dear Randi: Even with a 10 GB monthly limit your friend should still be aware that WUs usually mass somewhere about 320 MBs each, and, one WU will be downloaded for every core that is enabled for this project. It is also good to keep in mind that the zip files for the Hadam3p model are about 32 MBs each, and there are four of them per model. A small amount of additional bandwidth will also be used up by trickles. |
