I have a work computer and a home computer. My work computer is a laptop so i want it to have different settings than my Home PC. I have gone in and set different prefernces for Home and Work. Then changed each computer to Home and Work in the Computer section of the Preferences. However when the client updates it resets all of my settings instead of taking them. I have done this 5 or 6 times to no avail. Any help would be great. cretin |

I have the same problem. Here's what I did to work around the problem ... The only difference I had between my "Work" and "Home" prefs was at home I wanted BOINC to be idle when I'm using the computer. At work it's OK for BOINC to be running all the time. If this is your ONLY requirement, this workaround works: Remove all of your home, work and school prefs. Your default prefs wshould be set to: "Do work while computer is in use: NO". On the individual BOINC client machines where you want it to run all the time, select the menu option "File > Always Run". On the others, select "File > Run based on prefs". This works fine if the ONLY option you want to change is "Do work while computer is in use". I hope it helps. --- bt |

I'm having a similar problem. I tried your suggestion in regards to having it set to run always. But on my laptop - which has the noisiest whiney fan on the planet - I want it to take only 65% of my resources. I assume I would fill in 65 in the resource share box in my preferences. Well I've done that to my default accounts and it still is running at 100% resource share. Am I going about this all wrong or is this just a common bug? |

Resource sharing is between BOINC projects - if you're only running a single BOINC project then it doesn't make any difference what you set 'Resource share' to in your preferences, BOINC will always use 100% of your unused CPU cycles... |

Okay, that makes sense. Is there any way to make it cut down on processing though? It's currently running two projects because I have HyperThreading. Is there a way to make it stop running one of them perhaps? Given the fact that I've only just started using BOINC on this laptop it hasn't gotten very far. Any help is much appreciated. |
