I was hoping to find out if Windows 10 supports Boinc and CPDN before I went to all the trouble of install it and then having to reinstall Win7 if it doesnt work. |

Afraid, I can't help with that - I have been windows free this century. All I have read of Windows10 is the privacy scare stories. |

Why not install it alongside your existing Windows 7, either as a dual boot system or even in a virtual box? With the latter, you can run them both together side by side. If I had enough time at present, I'd give the latter method a go as I already run Win7/Linux this way. |

Been running Windows 10 since Aug 30. The only problem that I have encountered with Win 10 is that my thunderbird email client sticks open and I have to use task manager to close it. CPDN and Boinc run just fine. I didnt even have to reinstall and do a restore like other OS changes. |

It is important to remember that the free install of Win10 is an upgrade to an existing windows install and not a "clean" install. All your other programs should still be ok as should your existing data. It looks at the moment as if it is only the Home versions of previous Win installs are being upgraded. |

No, my upgrade was on a machine running Windows 7 Pro. |

There are also instructions on places such as Tom's Hardware and others telling you how to get a clean install as your upgrade should that be what you want. They also tell you how to make your machine upgrade if it isn't offering/nagging you to do so! |

I upgraded to Win10 last week. I had no problem with CPDN. Tasks that were running on Win8.1 continued to run fine on Win10 and completed without error. It was a seamless upgrade and had no affect on tasks that had started on Win8.1 but completed on Win 10. I did have some issues with vLHC@home, but that is because they use a VM for their tasks. I have since straightened that out also and now vLHC tasks are running and completing without errors. Hope that helps :) |

I am running two CPDN anz tasks that started when the OS was 8.1. s/Timestep was 5.xxxx. Now it looks like it has become 3.xxxx. I shall wait until next trickle to confirm. Tullio |

I can't get my tasks running in Windows 10: they terminate abnormally before about 0.004% completion. I hope this changes soon. Anyone else experiencing this? |

If you look at the unit reports all your units are crashing with the generic code 22 error <core_client_version>7.4.42</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> The device does not recognize the command. Sorry, too many model crashes! :-( 12:24:41 (7328): called boinc_finish </stderr_txt> ]]> Have you excluded the boinc directory from any virus scan ? Are you running the windows screensaver ? some generic advice to try and stop code 22 errors here http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=4231 It could also be lack of memory but I see you have 4GB installed, how much free memory do you have available ? |

Also, when they terminate so soon, it's best to talk about the time in seconds. Failures at around 6-7 seconds indicates a file problem; usually, either something is missing, or there's a permissions problem which stops the file from being accessed. Or, as Alez said, your anti virus is grabbing each file to examine it before allowing it to be used. |

I got back to CPDN short while ago just after I upgraded to Windows 10. All WUs seem to be erroring out. Any ideas? It's a laptop which I turn off for every night currently but I believe that shouldn't be an issue? http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/results.php?hostid=1372019 |

Welcome back Lorvija. Turning it off is not a problem, as long as you Suspend, then Exit, which you no doubt remember. :) The 'short' models all suffered from ATM_DYN : INVALID THETA DETECTED, which is a problem with the physics in the atmosphere part of the calcs. Neither the Pacific North West models, or the ANZ provided any useful info as to why they failed. The only thing that I can think of is the masses of Suspend request from BOINC that are all through all of the models. It's possible that all of this suspending has finally caught the model at a bad moment, causing it to crash. |

Hi, I notice in the PNW and ANZ runs, amongst the Suspend requests there is the error: "start_timer_thread(): CreateThread() failed, errno 0 forrtl: Access is denied." This does sound like an issue with the model restarting, maybe due to an issue with permissions. Were the crashes happening soon after you restarted your computer? |

Or an AV prog grabbing a file to check it. |
