Here is a paragraph from the Scientist involved in creating this batch explaining why there is expected to be some failures due to Physics in this batch:

The new experiments with the hadcm3n app, the 'r' and the 's' series, are ambitious experiments designed to push the climate model to the extremes of its operating limits in order to attempt to understand the feasibility of low climate sensitivity in GCM simulations. The experiment attempts to resolve the very important question of differences between the climate sensitivity estimates from GCMs and from simple energy balance estimates using observations. This is an experiment that only cpdn can do.

This experiment involves matching existing ocean simulations with new atmospheric perturbations that perturb the atmospheric parameters beyond ranges that they have been changed over before. This combination will inevitably mean that some of the ensemble members will take the model beyond its operational limits and cause it to crash, although there is no way to predict exactly which ones. We very much value your patience if and when this happens, and the fact that the particular model has crashed will indeed be valuable information in completing this exciting study.

There is expected to be some failures in the Physics of some workunits in this batch. The failures will be soon after the workunits start running, the message in the error log will be: INVALID THETA DETECTED. It is expected that up to a quarter of the workunits will fail soon after starting.
