After upgrading to Yosemite, BOINC Manager had to be reinstalled after complaining of permissions problems. There were no CPDN tasks in progress, so I can't tell whether they would have crashed after re-starting BOINC.

Has anyone else upgraded and, if so, what was your experience (BOINC-wise)?

No surprises here. I set "No new tasks" for all projects and finished all the current tasks before upgrading. I had to reinstall BOINC afterwards because the permissions had been reset, but once that was done, I just had to re-enable task fetch and everything worked fine � except for the next CPDN task, of course. ;) But the current one's chugging along OK at the moment.

It seems like there have been some growing pains between BOINC and the latest couple of OS X versions, so I can't say that I am at all surprised. Personally, I'm still on Mountain Lion--and don't really have any plans to upgrade unless there is some compelling reason such as software compatibility, etc. I don't feel there are enough significant differences/advantages to warrant an upgrade with the different OS X versions even though they are free.

I'm also on Yosemite, on a new (post-Yosemite) BOINC install (I am a longtime SETI fan but haven't run SETI@home since pre-BOINC). I'm having trouble getting the climateprediction graphics to show, but seem to be crunching fine. This is my first CPDN task; i suspended everyone else and let it run overnight hoping the graphics would load, but no luck. Am I doing something wrong or are graphics no longer an option?

Welcome to the project.

The more recent model types don't have graphics, and I think this may be the way of the future.
These days, a lot of the effort to create experiments is done by the researchers themselves, and not having graphics makes this easier.

You can check if there are or aren't graphics by looking at the Server Status page, which has a link in the blue menu to the left, 5 from the bottom.

You can "be picky", and only select certain model types if you like, by using the 3rd preference option on your Account page, which has a similar list to the one in the Server Status page. But if you do that, be sure that you also unselect the option at the bottom, which will otherwise give you anything that's available, if your selected models aren't available.

That's really unfortunate about the graphics. I know that in my set (by which I mean my friends, coworkers, other students, et al), getting a cool screensaver was about 60% of the motivation to install in the first place. The current BOINC default screen is very bland, and not everyone is as motivated by pure science as the folks on this board ;)

Do you know if the BOINC API is open? If so, I bet you anything that there would be some eager 3rd party developers (mostly for Quartz) who would hand you some excellent screensavers that would generate based on the data coming from the servers. Just a thought.

The "screen savers" really aren't screen savers. They just just suitable code and the extensive name, so that they can be loaded as such by Windows.

And the Oxford people don't accept code from outside people.
