Hello,

I have been running BOINC for a long while now on my Mac. It is running OSX Yosemite which was released about a year ago.

I want to update to El Capitan. Would BOINB be compatible with it?

My Physics Project and papers preserving project.

I'm waiting for my current batch of ANZ models to finish and will then upgrade to the latest BOINC Manager and then El Capitan - and will report back on that.

Which machine are you using? The one for your account does not yet have any tasks.

I've had no problems with BOINC itself since upgrading to El Capitan, although I had to reinstall it after the upgrade to re-establish its permissions. I've not had any CPDN tasks since before the upgrade, so I can't say anything about these specifically.

BOINC itself recently had a "recommended" update to 7.6.9, shortly after which the Mac recommended version went up to 7.6.11 and I see while writing this that it's now 7.6.12. I've no idea what issues have been addressed, but presumably its worth having the latest Mac version.

I suspect that this poster is just a spammer. I've already hidden a couple of "his" posts for that reason.
Only 1 of the projects on "his" list has a small amount of credit, and that may have been so that "he" could post there.

If there's no reply here by the end of the month, I'm going to ask for this user to be removed from the project's data base.

With all due respect to you; I do not see a reason for identifying me as so. I honestly feel offended with all the "quotes".

I have been running BOINC for two years now, except that it is with other universities (which I have ran tens of tasks for). I have posted this here because the forum is more active and I know that a lot of apps for Mac crash when you upgrade.

I have got an answer from, Nigel Garvey (thank you a lot). I believe other users will be curious about whether BOINC is supported on El Capitan or not.

Thank you a lot, sir. And, no, I am no robot. I am a normal human being contributing to science and supporting "the world's largest climate modelling experiment" with more of my computer resources once I finish some tasks from other projects.

Glad to hear that you are indeed a human being, as I too had my suspicions. Your profile, which I can no longer see, was a link to an apparently commercial service and a number of posts had been made without apparently running any CPDN models. That does raise questions. There are unfortunately plenty of commercial spammers about and occasionally a perfectly normal person gets caught in the net. Best of luck with whichever BOINC projects you process.

Less than 5,000 credits over two years? I think you need to take a look at your preferences!

I remember someone 5-6 years ago who made over 30 posts all over this board.
Then they waited a couple of months until other newer posts had pushed theirs down the list a bit, and created a signature with a commercial link, so that sudden all of their posts had it.
It took a while to find out and delete all of them, but that's the REAL purpose of the moderators here.

And ever since we lost our other PHP board to Chinese hackers, I have a very suspicious mind.

Not a mac user but I would be tempted to try and see what happens, (once work is available) and then only re-install if necessary. With BOINC upgrades in the past it has been necessary to detach and re-attach, don't know if this needed for OS upgrades as well but again, I would try it and see first.

My Mac's backlog finally cleared, so the El Capitan upgrade was applied with the same results as Nigel. So, +1.

Could someone with access to my account if something has broken. I had 4 tasks chugging along quite happily, but they have now stopped progressing (3 at 44.5%, one as 67.6%) and if I leave Boinc open it fills my startup disk in a couple of hours.

How much space is that? If memory serves me correctly, even admins can't see anything in your account that I can't. I see you have had 4 ANZ tasks crash so it may be worth looking to see if they have left their folders behind in the data directory in which case under projects/climateprediction.net you can delete the folders associated with those tasks. Also if you have that little spare space in the area where BOINC is working it may be that you need to increase the allocation available to BOINC to give a bit more headway.

Edit: It does sound as if it is stopping computation due to lack of disk space.

It is using up about 17gb of space in about 2 or 3 hours. I usually have 5gb allocated, and it has run for days at a time trouble free (including with multiple tasks running). The disk filling thing is new.

You really need about 3 gigs per task, because some of the new models are BIG. I've got a post here about this: Models are getting more detailed, and therefore bigger

All of the model types gradually take more and more space until they reach the point where data is zipped for an upload, after which the space used drops back down.

And you have a few failures on your Tasks page, which may have left some debris behind.

I have some tasks listed on the server as "In progress" when they aren't (I reset the project). Any way to flush them?

The only way to do that, is to Abort them before Resetting.
