A Raspberry Pi 3 BOINC + Climate Model !

BTW : ARM CPUs are UK Tech!

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B vs. Raspberry Pi 2 Model B | RS Components

Currently the BOINC Client is not inculded in the defult build of Raspberry Pi LINUX.

A branch version of BOINC will have to be ported, and some CPUID technology added so that it can tell the RPi 2 and RPi 3 apart.

RPi 2 may be great for doing BOINC number theory maths and bitcoin hashing etc ... but only the RPi 3 has enough on board memory to do a climate simulation.

You'll need to take that up with the UK Met Office. They're the ones who write the modelling programs that we use.

Technically, on the basis that ARM has/is being sold to SoftBank, I guess now it also partially if not fully Japanese.

Being from Cambridge, and ARM being from the heritage of Acorn/BBC Micro, this is something of a moot issue here in Cambridge..

I have a few friends who work at ARM. to date none have brought up the subject with me. I will have to ask them.

There is also the difference betwen risk and cisc architecture that Les mentioned a few threads down from this one on Android devices. There is another post where the reasons why risc architecture is less suitable for the floating point work done by CPDN tasks but I couldn't spot it in a hurry. Suffice it to say, it is not simply a matter of recompiling the million or so lines of fortran for a different chipset. If it were that simple I suspect it would have been done by now.

Nah... Most people just do what they need to do on the Rpi, for them BOINC is totally unnecessary to be included in the default distribution.
