I'm in the market for a new Desktop Mac and I was wondering what Mac most of you are all using? My Mac went kaput a while back and I've been getting by on my laptop since then but not running CPDN for quite some time, and I've never loved running it on my laptop in general. If there was a stats page i haven't seen yet where i could look up stuff like this, my apologies but I couldn't find one Thanks in advance! Joe |

This is emphatically not a recommendation, but my ancient Mac mini is here. It may have lasted so long because the power supply is separate, whereas for understandable reasons the newer ones have the power supply built in. |

My Mac Mini is in my signature. I'm loving it so far, just looking forward to finally getting some CPDN tasks! Mac Mini 2012 Quad-Core i7 2.3Ghz 16GB RAM 1TB SSD |

Hi, Joe, Your machine has a large SSD. My understanding is that SSDs have a limited write-life -- and CPDN tasks write a lot of data to 'disk' over the course of a run. Perhaps the SSD's manufacturer has online technical data indicating write-life for your machine's unit. Other participants' experience with SSDs invited. Hey, that's a greally great point. I would love to hear other people's stories. I'm not aware of BOINC settings that allow me to save data to a Disk. I also have a HDD in my Mac Mini that I could use if I could figure out how to get BOINC to use it instead of my SSD. I'll go google that right now and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the heads up! Mac Mini 2012 Quad-Core i7 2.3Ghz 16GB RAM 1TB SSD |

The locations used for both the program and for the data sections of BOINC are set during installation. In the 3rd install screen, bottom right corner, click Advanced, and select them there. To change it after installing BOINC, just uninstall BOINC and re-install. When you're NOT running any tasks. |

I bought a used 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 with an ATI 5870 graphics card and will upgrade the CPU to a hexacore next week. I love the machine and wanted others to enjoy some of its computing power, too, so signed up here. No tasks available just yet, though. |
