Did you get the following message as well?

<i>State file has different major version (0.00); resetting projects</i>

If so it's a going to be due to a corruption of the client_state.xml file in your BOINC directory. What happened on the system just before you got the error?

this just happend to me to
lost power and 4 boxs went down on recovery one had the problem, 3 recoverd no problem
the one asked for a new computer ID

I've seen reports of this problem after a power failure or a reboot without suspending and stopping the BOINC GUI interface first (and I suspect it's also possible if the controlling user is logged out without exiting the program first).

I think I've identified a deficiency in the BOINC startup sequence, and have passed details of a possible solution to the BOINC development team.
