Hi all, I've been crunching at SETI@home since 1999 (there's no boinc then), in the meanwhile boinc was born, and I knew this project for a long ago, I jumped in today. When I heard of this project, it took 3 weeks to crunch one workunit, but today I found it's only 5 days+, but it's still long. So I wonder there's no multithreaded clients in this thread? Or using GPU is also good. I use 8 threaded i7, using only 1 thread for this project is not interesting. Anyway enjoying it. Thanks in advance! |

Sorry, there is no GPU work for CPDN. The main reason for this is that while good for some sorts of work, GPUs are not anywhere as good for floating point work which comprises a large part of the calculations involved in CPDN tasks. Also because of the sequential nature of the tasks with each calculation depending on the previous one CPDN tasks would not scale well for multi core work. When I heard of this project, it took 3 weeks to crunch one workunit When some of us started tasks often took 3-6 months to complete! |
