For some reason last week three work units disappeared from my BOINC Community Grid while they were working. While this may not seem a big deal they were some of the only recent work units I managed to get to around the 6-7% Complete in a very long time. I have no idea why this may have happened since the due date was in April 2019. Is there something I need to do or just relax and let the system run? |

If you look at the Tasks page for your computer, you'll see that everything is crashing. Some at least have a long list of Suspended CPDN Monitor - Suspend request from BOINC This is when you leave the default setting of Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above at 25%, which causes BOINC to constantly stop and start when YOU use the computer. Climate models don't like this, and sooner or later .... Also, I think that the error number -1073741205 is a Windows error. But others in your task list have different problems. You'll need to look at each one to see what is causing the majority of your crashes. |

As Les said, there are very many suspends on the crashed tasks. You can minimize these by utilizing some of the Computing preferences in boinc manager. You may first want to upgrade to the latest stable boinc version for Windows... 7.8.3. The one you are running, 7.2.47 is 4 years old, and apparently, was only compiled specifically for World Community Grid. Then, as Les said, on the "Computing" tab of Computing preferences, uncheck the "Suspend when non-BOINC CPU usage is above" setting. Then, make sure that "Suspend when computer is in use" is unchecked. Finally, go to the "Disk and Memory" tab and check "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory when suspended". This may help you progress farther in your tasks and hopefully complete some successfully. If it doesn't, post back here and we may have additional suggestions for helping complete tasks. |

OK color me as "not getting the memo"! But didn't BOINC used to notify users of new versions? I haven't gotten any notifications and hence was running V7.2.47 also. Now downloading V7.8.3. Any unique steps to updating, l9ike suspend tasks? |

BOINC still does notify people of new versions, but only if this hasn't been turned off. (I think it may be a sliding bar somewhere. Perhaps Options.) (Yesterday one of my computers notified me of a new version.) I think Suspend BOINC, wait a few seconds, then Exit BOINC is best. THEN run the update. |

I usually make a backup before doing the update; just in case something should go wrong. I don’t think I’ve ever had to use the backup, but, it is nice to have. |

FWIW, I looked at WCG and they are still recommending 7.2.47 for download from their site. I guess they have it setup the way they like it, although most people run the WCG tasks through regular boinc installs. If you want to stay with 7.2.47, there are similar preferences to the ones I mentioned that you can set to do the same thing. |
