8. 32-Bit support diminishing from flavors Just been reading the above on the Cosmic Cuttlefish page. I wonder if that will mean the end of native Linux for CPDN in five years time? |

Just been reading the above on the Cosmic Cuttlefish page. I wonder if that will mean the end of native Linux for CPDN in five years time? Aside from four re-runs, I have not received any work units for over a year. I assume that means the end of native Linux for CPDN has already ended. |

I had 6 from two recent batches of hadcm3 tasks, the last of which finished two days ago but it was the first of that type for quite a long time.(748 and 749) |

It seems the Lubuntu folks are following and dropping support of 32 bit as well. They pointed out that a number of upstream packages don't support 32 bit so its getting too hard for them to offer 32 bit. OSX has already gone to 64 bit only. Nvidia has gone down this path too, not that it effects this project. I hope the project can look at switching to 64 bit apps, initially for the Linux and OSX people and then Windows. I am sure the user stats would point out that 95% or more users are running a 64 bit OS. BOINC blog |

Would love this too. However, I don't see it happening soon. I also haven't been able to get the 64 bit version of BOINC to work in WINE. Until this is resolved, or the problem with WAH2 tasks not running on Linux, this would mean much of the time, nothing for Linux users. Getting the WAH2 tasks to run on Linux and on Mac, should I think be a higher priority. |

I think the only thing that will make them produce a 64 bit version of CPDN is if Microsoft was to announce that the next version of Windows was going to be 64 bit only. Right now they have enough Windows machines to run all the work that is available on this project. |
