I'm getting a black screen followed by a reboot. Climate prediction is the only project sending me tasks at the moment. I suspended processing for a month got no black screens, restarted it and got 2 within a week. Processing set to start after 3 minutes idlestate, screensaver comes on after 45 minutes. The probem seems to occur while processing but before screensaver comes on, when I use the keyboard or mouse. Boinc 7.16.7 x64 Windows 10 pro 10.0.19041 Any help appreciated |

Do you have this setting enabled on you computing preferences: 'Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended'? This should be set on as cpdn tasks usually don't like to be stopped and restarted from the last checkpoint. In this case tasks usually just error out but do not stop whole windows. Also make sure that the CPU temperatures don't get too high while processing. |

Unlikely to be overheating unless something non-BOINC related that is intensive has been running at the same time as it looks like only one task has been running at a time. This also makes memory issues unlikely again unless something else big is running concurrently. If you ever want to run all cores at once, it might be worth investing in some more ram. 2GB/core is currently advised and this is only likely to go up over time. That said, the peak working set size of the one task completed is only 222.08 MB. I would suggest turning the BOINC screensaver off as it doesn't really contribute anything. None of the models these days have graphics as the person who had the skills to program the graphics left the project several years ago and no one with the interest to do this has come to the project since. I will shut up now as having defenestrated in 99 I know little about Windows these days. |

Thanks for that. I have checked that box and will wait to see what happens. Don't think I have an overheating problem. |

To check temperatures install the Intel Extreme Tuning utility. Since you have an i7 chip it will show core tems and whether there is thermal throttling taking place. Ideally should be running between 70C and 80C. |

Also, if you type: Windows 10 black screen into a web browser, there's quite a few posts about it. Perhaps having a look through some of them may help. |
