Catalina (Darwin 19.x) dropped support for 32 bit apps, and thus Macs running Catalina or later aren't compatible with the current cpdn apps (as of Feb 2022). The only cpdn model currently compatible with Macs running Mohave and earlier is hadcm3s. If a Mac running Catalina or later downloads a hadcm3s task, it will fail immediately with a "bad cpu type" error. The openIFS model will run natively in 64 bit, and is expected to come out later this year and be compatible with both Mac and Linux. Warning, it will be resource intensive beyond anything that has previously run on cpdn. |

Warning, it will be resource intensive beyond anything that has previously run on cpdn. To illustrate this, the last two tasks I ran on my Ryzen7 with 32GB of memory, before I noticed and suspended some, I had two of my Hadam4 tasks showing suspended-lack of memory or similar. I forget the exact wording but it was the first time I saw this. Peak working set size 8,969.16 MB Peak swap size 9,608.00 MB Peak disk usage 16,257.72 MBis from the relevant task page of one. It produced around 10GB of zip files to be uploaded in the 28 hours it was running. |

I would be very happy to crunch CPDN on my macs again. Do you have any timeline? Can I also help you to test the new application in CPDN beta test? - I have a long BOINC history in porting and testing... Also as volunteer beta tester for CPDN.. |

I would be very happy to crunch CPDN on my macs again. The new application (OpenIFS) is now on the main site. At some point it is likely to be available as a Virtual Box application which should run on Windows or Mac. Currently it is only available in a native Linux version. If you have been part of the testing programme for CPDN in the past, I assume you can still use your login details to get work when available. (Right now there are 23 of the hadcm3s tasks on testing but as George has pointed out, these will not run on the newer releases of MacOS. |
