I received an email, about changing a setting in \"client_state.xml\" from 1 to 5.
I did that before processing was complete. Two WU were completed yesterday, but fail to upload any of the \"zip\" files. Where might there be a problem?

Hi Ian,

Could you please post the messages generated by the failed upload. Either from the boinc_gui messages tab or from the stdout.txt and stderr.txt files in your BOINC directory.

That's definitely the upload error that affects a small number of workunits sent out around the project launch date, Jim. Carl did send an email to everyone who was affected on how to work round the problem, but a number of people didn't receive it as somebody very kindly got comlab.ox.ac.uk blacklisted on SpamCop :(

I don't know if the upload can be recovered, but what you need to do is stop BOINC and manually edit the client_state.xml file as follows.

Search for 009p_500025334_0_1.zip.

If it's not in the file then you won't be able to complete the upload.

If it's still there you'll find a {max_nbytes} setting a couple of lines below it. If the value is 1000000.000000 change it to 5000000.000000 (there is another {max_nbytes} setting further down, but it's in a {signed_xml} section and shouldn't be changed).

Having made the change you can restart BOINC.

As far as I know I made that change a week or so ago when the email came out. The reference to the workunit that failed upload is no longer in the client_state file. Is there a manual method for packaging and sending in the results? The folder with all the files still exists. If there isn't a manual way to send in the result files I guess all I can do is remove the folder.

One of my uploads just failed as well. Log message is attached. I thought that I had made the suggested changes but there is always room for mea culpa.

That looks like you changed the value in the signed_xml section by mistake, Chilcotin :(

When my most recent work unit completed a number of files uploaded but left me with the five zip files which refuse to upload. The new unit downloaded and is now happily chuging away. Is there any way of getting these remaining zip files to upload or will I just have to abandon them?

It is likely this problem with the Bern server

Frustrating I'm sure.

Great news! The five zip files which have been lying about in the departure lounge for the last few days have just decided to up sticks and board the plane to Bern. When last seen they were winging their way over the Alps to Switzerland. I just hope that they have now arrived safely.

More likely they got re-routed to Oxford. :) See <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=1208">this thread</a>. Bern is still said to be closed.

I checked with passport control and they are now at home but who knows where that might be in this uncertain world.

I admit to a certain sense of Schadenfreude over the whole business. All my life we've been living in Britain with the ideal of Swiss efficiency in contrast to British muddling through. It really is a topsy turvey world.
