I've asked Andy about this and he says this will settle down once the DNS changes made today to fix the problem take effect and trickle down to hosts.I'm not sure I'm convinced that a DNS re-configuration would resolve an SSL certificate domain-name mismatch, but we can only wait and see. |

Maybe not but let's wait and see. I'd hate for people to spend time looking into this if Andy believes it's just a case of reverting back to the DNS entries we had last week.I've asked Andy about this and he says this will settle down once the DNS changes made today to fix the problem take effect and trickle down to hosts.I'm not sure I'm convinced that a DNS re-configuration would resolve an SSL certificate domain-name mismatch, but we can only wait and see. --- CPDN Visiting Scientist |

I notice that the number of tasks ready to send has been stuck for at least 2 refreshes of the page by the time of last update and the dropping of no of users in last 24 hours suggests no reporting of tasks is happening. |

My trickles were working until about the noon but no success since then. The error I get is same as Richard has reported. A new trickle is produced about every 4 hours. |

So when the scheduler is inaccessible, everything stops. |

Yes, I noticed. The problem is with the SSL certificate for www.cpdn.org which boinc needs, cpdn.org works ok for the website. I emailed Andy first thing this morning and asked if he could look into urgently. ps. Dave, the number of tasks IS changing on the server status, but it's going up not down. --- CPDN Visiting Scientist |

Yes, I noticed. The problem is with the SSL certificate for www.cpdn.org which boinc needs, cpdn.org works ok for the website. To be exact, we have two separate urls for the same server/filing system - the whole operational shooting match. They are: www.cpdn.org main.cpdn.org As I type, both urls point to the same ip address (129.67.193.106) - that's DNS doing its thing. But main.cpdn.org is protected by an SSL certificate, www.cpdn.org isn't. If you use a browser to bypass the certificate check, you can see exactly the same data - but BOINC doesn't bypass the check. Provided the 'one server' identity was intentional (we haven't had that confirmed by Oxford), then an alt name on the certificate should resolve all the problems (including data collection by the external stats sites - the data dumps are up-to-date as of 17:50 on 31 October). |

ps. Dave, the number of tasks IS changing on the server status, but it's going up not down.I should have written down the number before going to bed! That would be failed tasks being reissued. I notice my zips and trickles both seem to be going through without issue at the moment albeit, I only have one task running. |

If you use "cpdn.org" without www or main it will default to using www ? Stats sites will probably be using "cpdn.org" and getting www.cpdn.org which fails and so no stats can be grabbed. |

Yes, I know. It needs a SAN certificate. I'm guessing Andy has to go through IT services at the Uni to get it sorted. Am waiting on a reply. zips go to a different url and aren't affected. --- CPDN Visiting Scientist |

Zips yes, trickles no. 01 Nov 2024 08:32:28 1552038 22521599 wah2_nz25_10hr_209105_25_1028_012344566_0 57,899 62,420 1.0781 Credit is consistent with the number of trickle up messages the task page says have been sent too. |

Interesting, my 8.0.2 on Win 8.1 can't connect at all but your 8.0.4 on Win 11 can. Wonder where the subdomain ignorance is located. |

Interesting, my 8.0.2 on Win 8.1 can't connect at all but your 8.0.4 on Win 11 can.It isn't really Win 11 but WINE on a Linux box pretending to be Win11. A further six tasks have just downloaded and started. Same BOINC version in Windows10 in a VM isn't able to get any work. |

If you use "cpdn.org" without www or main it will default to using www ?cpdn.org has its own DNS entry - that points to 162.159.140.127, which holds a copy of the main publicity page of climateprediction.net Edit - climateprediction.net also points to 162.159.140.127, so it's an alias rather than a copy. |

But typing cpdn.org into a browser takes me to https://www.cpdn.org/ and the warning... Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.cpdn.org. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details. It doesn't take me to climateprediction.net of any variety. |

That must be a quirk of Firefox. Chrome gives me exactly the url I asked for. |

Firefox on Ubuntu takes me to cpdn.org and displays the climateprediction stuff ! |

Firefox on Ubuntu takes me to cpdn.org and displays the climateprediction stuff !On my Ubuntu box if I type in cpdn.org, it takes me to www.cpdn.org and the page says welcome Dave and how much I have contributed to the project but only once I have accepted the risk and continued. On Chromium, it takes me to cpdn.org and the page Richard refers to. I wonder if the difference in how the two browsers interpret cpdn.org is somehow mirrored in the difference between how my BOINC instances in WINE and in a VM deal with things? Edit: Another trickle has gone through at 12:45 and two more tasks have downloaded and started running. Edit2: Just noticed all but one of the now 16 tasks I have are from 1021 and only one from 1028. |
