Hi, When I try and install this on my Win2K PC I keep getting: \"CreateService failed - The specified service has been marked for deletion. (0x430)\" What can I do to get this installed as a service? Thanks |

I don't know exactly what is going wrong, but if you get this message, you have to reboot the box, so that "marked for deletion" could be executed. Maybe, afterwards you have a better chance. Hope this helps Supporting BOINC, because it is really a great concept ! |

Thanks, tried rebooting but still won't work, I keep getting the same message. Even tried installing the service using the MS INSTSRV.EXE utility, that works ok but then the service won't start... Cheers |

I have seen reports that this is a symptom of improper permissions on the BOINC folder. Try giving fuller access to the install directory then doing the service install again.
John Keck -- BOINCing since 2002/12/08 -- |

Thanks, checked the permissions and I have "Full Control" over the install directory ("c:\program files\boinc") Removed permissions, added them again and re-tried but still getting same error. I've been reading some of the other BOINC users pages (on SETI) and there seems to be a common theme of getting this to work by installing an older version first and then installing the new version due to missing registry entries. Does anyone know if this works for this version? |
