Not being addressed on the SETI board, so I figured I\'d try here... since it happens on both projects. When I assign \"Work\" as a location to one of my systems, it reverts back to \"Home\" after a BOINC update. This is a problem for me because I want to use different profiles. I have some servers I\'m planning on running CP on, but I need to restrict the processing to \"off-hours\" only so it doesn\'t impact my users during normal usage times. The rest of the profiles will be running 7x24. Anyone know when this will be fixed? |

Hi Jim, There's definitely a problem with the way venue changes are propogated down to computers when you do a project update. If I've got the time I'm going to dig into the BOINC source code to try to work out what's happening, but I've worked out that it's because the server end doesn't send host details in its reply to the update request. You could force the venue change by stopping BOINC and manually editing client_state.xml to add the following line before the last one (replacing the {} with angled brackets): {host_venue}work{/host_venue} Join us here |

The server side of the problem has been fixed in the source, at about the same time as the unread posts flag was added. So when all the projects update their web sites the the new code that part of the problem should go away. A client side fix was checked in today and will be included in CCv4.12 and later. Hopefully these 2 fixes will take care of the problems. We should know in a couple of weeks.
John Keck -- BOINCing since 2002/12/08 -- |

Thanks for the update, John. Just wish I'd checked back here before I submitted a change to the boinc_dev mailing list ... Join us here |

If I get impatient, I'll go with the manual edit. :-) |

FYI, the manual fix given by Thyme worked fine - thanks. I guess I just don't have much patience at times... (lol) It'll be nice when it works as designed, though. |

Glad it worked for you too Jim ;) David Anderson has confirmed to me that a number of major flaws in the preferences and venues system have been fixed. As John Keck mentioned, client-side fixes will be in release 4.12. Server-side fixes have already been deployed for BOINC Alpha and SETI@home.
Join us here |
