Hi, I am using the linux commandline client. If i shutdown the process by hitting CTRL + C, it says: 2wtk_000157220 - PH 1 TS 011000 - 20/07/1811 04:00 - H:M:S=0026:15:00 AVG= 8.59 DLT=33.37 2004-10-04 11:07:28 [---] Received signal 2 2004-10-04 11:07:29 [---] Exit requested by user After i restart the model, the following appears on the terminal window: Starting model ID 2wtk_000157220 Phase 1 Stack size=4096.00 MB Waiting for model startup, this may take a minute... 2wtk_000157220 - PH 1 TS 010945 - 00/00/0000 00:00 - H:M:S=0026:06:46 AVG= 8.59 DLT= 0.00 2wtk_000157220 - PH 1 TS 010946 - 19/07/1811 01:00 - H:M:S=0026:07:19 AVG= 8.59 DLT=33.62 There is a loss of time in the computing from about one or two days, even if i set the \"write to disk\" property to 30 seconds. Any idea? Uwe |

This is because the model saves every three model days (144 timesteps) no matter what you have set in your BOINC preferences. That means it will save at 0030 on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, etc. of each model month (each month has 30 days in the model). |

Thank you very much for the answer, now i understand the behaviour of the software. The problem ist, that if i have more than one project running, the process can be interrupted before the model is saved. Unter circumstances most of the last run can be lost. Can i change the saving let say to 50 timesteps or is this algorithm hardcoded in the software? Uwe |

What people have been doing is somewhere in the General preferences for BOINC, you can check something like "Leave Application in Memory when pre-empted" and that should allow CPDN to start up where it left off when pre-empted by another project. |

Does it mean that if i'm turning off my computer before it will end the third day it is still counting the same data? What is the sense of it? I was sure that i can use my computer as allways when running CP... it it not true? |

The model saves every 144 timesteps, or 3 model days. This will probably be at intervals of between 5 mins and 20 mins actual elapsed time, depending on the speed of your computer. As long as your computer processes CP for this minimum time it will make progress. There is no need to leave it on for a minimum of 3 real days, although, of course, the longer you leave it on for, the more progress it will make. General advice for this project is that you do leave your computer on for long periods, especially overnight, to allow it to make a significant contribution to the project. Of course, while it is on, you can continue to use it normally and CP will have little or no noticable impact. |
