Please check you all this project status info page, sort it by clicking twice in Project status column header to see Production above, and tell me what do you see... Sarcasms apart, at this page you can check that today anything has changed about credits update of the project. A month ago, when my previous post, I set cpdn to "won't get new tasks" status in my boinc manager, although I left it proccesing present tasks. Today it finished and uploaded the last one. I have about a hundred tasks to validate and I am wondering about which other boinc project choose for crunching. Just in case someone from the staff might be interested, I care more about the lack of communication and poor interest of them with volunteers than the fact itself of a technical problem. In the assumption, of course, that they are actively trying to solve it. If not, the problem is even greater. I'll keep in touch with the cnpd project in the boinc manager to see how does evolve this subject and may be in a future I'll get back to crunch, or may not. Anyway, good luck. |

Nigel, the issue of credit is not about competition but recognition of our contribution. Is that so bad? On the other hand, the message that the important thing is science and not the numbers begins to bore, don't you realize it? Are they asking us for blind faith? blind support? Are we talking about science or about religion or politics? It is a very pragmatic matter. Finally, what would happen if the contribution of the volunteers goes down so much that it becomes mission-critical? How much time will they (scientists) need to wait to take action? Please check you all this project status info page, sort it by clicking twice in Project status column header to see Production above, and tell me what do you see... (btw that stuff about BOINC Validation Pending has nothing to do with credit status updates, as stated by someones in another recent thread, is hard to believe: in my BOINC CPDN page, when my credits are updated, my validation pending becomes 0) |

No need to apologise. Of course not, Dave. I was asking someone who seems to ignore that, within this BOINC paradigm, we, volunteers are the ones who are giving them time and resources for their scientific projects. I am proud of my modest contribution to science, which is reflected in those credits. I do not think this is asking so much. Absolutely zero PR. |

So maybe we even have to apologize for asking about our credit for the work done, WB8ILI? |

Well, it is ending this Sunday that makes the fifth week without credit update. On the one hand it is said that the scripts can not be executed on working days the script now takes so long to run, there are not enough hours in a day..., otherwise they can not be watched by those responsible during the weekend, so there does not seem to be a clear solution for a pending credit update work snowball that is growing and growing... Any news on this? Thank you in advance for any information. |

but credit updates also gives us the feedback of a living/running project. That seems only evidence that my machine is crunching and uploading finished tasks to the server. Just this. If we add to this the fact, confirmed by moderators (check next link), that validate pending in my task's page means nothing at all, it has nothing to do with credit status, can anyone tell us what's going on, after three weeks without credit status update? One more time, and sorrying to bore you about it, I'm here and in a few other BOINC projects, for the sake of the science, but numbers are important, of course they are, for many reasons, feedback is only one of them. On the other hand, discussing these topics, gives us a deeper understanding about how it works, of course! Thank you for it and best regards |

The moderators have no ability to run the credit script, if that is what you mean: messages are passed onto the project if the approximately weekly credit script is significantly delayed. No, I didn't mean that at all, I wasn't even criticizing anything either. I was only asking for information about how the things work, for notices when there is a problem, for us, contributors, to understand it. For example, for the third weekend, this Sunday is ending again without credit updates. It may not be a significant delay yet. I'm not worried at all about my numbers. I'm just asking for understand these processes. And by the way, every time credit scripts are run, my validation pending is set to 0 (speaking only about recent tasks) so you may understand my surprise when you tells that the relationship is none, as I thought that that validation was related to confirming the completed and uploaded tasks, in order to reflect them in our personal credits. Anyway, thank you for informing. Best regards |

In other words, it is nothing to worry about. So, what is the relationship, if there is one, between these 'validation pending' units and our credit status?. My credit status is only updated, as far as I can see, when those units are validated (not to mention pendings from several years ago which I no longer consider). In another active thread regarding credit status there is a slight debate between science vs numbers, and despite I (and others) agree that science is the matter, the fact is that credit is our almost only feedback, not only on project life itself but in our contribution to it. As I'm stating there, I miss a more active participation of the moderators in this forum, I think we deserve it as contributors to the project. Best regards |

Hang in with us. It is the science that matters, not credit, eh? I agree with that as posted previously, but credit updates also gives us the feedback of a living/running project. Accepting that this cpdn boinc infraestructure requires long credit script times, and so must be run weekly and in weekends, I do insist in a better comunication of administrators with us, eg via the bam's Notices tab. |

Well, this second sunday is ending without credit updates and, despite of everything said in this thread in terms of science vs numbers, etc, I wonder if we do not deserve some words from those responsible of running these credit scripts, in case these are not set to auto run in a crontab. A server hung, a fault in a motherboard that is waiting for a replacement, a hard drive full and/or even maintenance crew on vacation, is much more understandable than silence, especially when we use to see other Boinc projects updating on the fly several times a day, although it is true that the work units of cpdn are especially large. By the way, couldn't these credit scripts run every night, at quiet hours, eg 0 UTC? It is anybody out there? |
