1) Message boards : Number crunching : Upload failures

I've enlisted in Science United to see how it works I am now running Milkyway@home on one Windows 8.1 PC. It is also hosting a Virtual Linux PC with SuSE Thimblewood, a development version. BOINC manager from SuSE does not work, so I installed manually Einstein@home and it runs fine. Cheers. Tullio |

I have been running 9 WAH2 tasks on two Windows PC, one Windows 10 (7) and one Windows 8.1 (2). Of the Windows 10 7 tasks ,two have failed with computing errors, one has completed and uploaded, four are trying to upload. Of the 2 8.1 tasks one has completed and is trying to upload, the other is still running. This after two completed tasks were trying to upload when the system crashed due to a bad RAM module and were lost. So of a total of 11 tasks only one has uploaded, one is still running but I have little hope of seeing it uploaded. So I gave my best two PCs to CPDN, excluding other projects. My average credit has risen from zero to about 9000 due to the trickles. Goodbye. Tullio |

One task on the Windows 10 PC has uploaded. Two have failed, four have completed and are trying to upload. One on the Windows 8.1 is still running after 15 days. Tullio |

I am making my last attempt in CPDN omn two PCs, une with Windows 8.1 and one on Windows 10, both with plenty of RAM and 1 TB disks. If they fail tu upload, I shall leave. I have 4 other projects running on Windows, Linux and Android on a cell phone. Tullio |

Yes, but how come trickles go up? In my humble opionion, I've been blacklisted for unknown reasons. Now I am making a last stand, using my fastest CPU, a Ryzen 5 1400, 24 GB RAM, Windows 10. I've downloaded 8 tasks and they are running. Tullio |

I don't think so. I just uploaded a GPUGRID task, a GPU version using a GTX 1050 Ti board, and it uploaded. On a Linux PC, GPUGRID CPU tasks are very heavy, needing several GB of disk space and they upload easily. Same for LHC tasks on another Windows 10 PC and CPU tasks on a Linux Virtual Machine running SuSE Tumbleweed on top of the Windows 8.1 host which runs CPDN. Tullio From the Transfers label in the Windows Task Manager, the upload seems to be 702 KB. I've unloaded 8 WAH2 tasks on my Windows 10 PC. They are SAM,ANZ,PNW and SAFR. Wait and see what happens. |

The two tasks that failed to upload on April 2 gained each 9,898.90 credits. Then a system crash made me rebuild the system and they are no longer trying to upload. I have now one trying to upload and one still running since 7 days with more 7 to go. It seems to be runnng fine. Tullio |

I have 4 projects (SETI, EINSTEIN,LHC, GPUGRID) filling my event log. There is no cc_config. My Windows 8.1 mouse is unable to collect and post data, only my Linux mouse on another PC can do this, but CPDN is running on the faster CPU. All that the event log says is that upload fails,Internet access is OK but the servers must be down and it backs off. All other projects upload their results with no pain. One CPDN task has ended and its latest trickles were sent on April 25. The other is still running and its latest trickles were sent on April 26. Tullio |

It is useless for me to go on crunching tasks since finished results will not upload after nine or more days, while trickles go up. Tullio |

Sill upload failures of finished results. Trickles seem to be accepted. Tullio |

Antonello Pasini is an Italian climate scientist. He hes met and spoken with Greta Thunberg and given her a copy of his book "From observations to simulations. A conceptual introduction to weather and climate modeling", World Scientific, Singapore. He is running a blog on Climate science in "Le Scienze", the Italian edition of Scientific American, and is skilled in explaining complex problems. His background is in theoretical physics. Tullio |

I have a AMD A10-6700 CPU on a Windows PC, which also hosts a Linux Virtual Machine with SuSE Thimblewood, a development version with frequent upgrades. The PC had Windows 10, but a crash due to a bad RAM (it had 24 GB, now reduced to 20) made me use a repair disk which was made in Windows 8. So it is now running Windows 8, upgraded to 8.1. The funny thing is that when running Windows 10 it could run only two tasks at the same time, plus a GPU task from SETI, Einstein or GPUGrid, and on Windows 8.1 it can run 4 tasks. The CPU was sold as 4 cores, but the Windows Task Manager says it has two cores and 4 logical processors. It runs at a maximum of 3.70 GHz but I have seen it reaching 4.14 GHz, a speed that the Ryzen 5 1400 on another Windows 10 PC cannot reach. It is now running 2 SAM tasks, while two crashed due to frequent stops and starts in attempts to bring it back to Windows 10. Tullio |

I am running 4 wah2 SAM tasks on the same computer, and they send up a lot of trickles. I hope the results will go up too. Tullio |

I try to be fair to all my projects, and divide tasks to computers which best suit them. So I loaded my second best Windows computer with 2 wah2 tasks. Wee, like Einstein said when he learned of the Hiroshima bomb. Tullio |

I am running 4 other BOINC projects,SETI,Einstein.LHC,GPUGRID on 3 PCs and one cellphone, using Windows 10, Linux and Android. No problem in uploading results. Reading my inbox I found a mail from Andy saying that I had been blacklisted by Oxford in 2012. Maybe this is the rub. Tullio |

I have added http to the eventlog options and I saw we are using www.google.com. Maybe there is the rub. tullio |

Yes, I have restarted BOINC. Once the Oxford site refused me the access to a message board since they said my domain telecomitalia.it was not secure. But my trickles all went up. Tullio |

I am still trying to upload. All SETI@home, Einstein@home, GPUGRID, LHC@home tasks have uploaded and reported successfully. Tullio |
