I tried to bring up the graphics today - and the app generated a fatal error. Apparently all of the work (80%+) was abandoned, and it started on a new work unit. Was that really wasted time, or will the system restart my work unit on another server based on my incremental results? If it really was wasted, I will probably bail on this project. The work units are too large to be reliably completed. |

I don't know about your graphics problem (I avoid the display because it is a resource hog) but it could relate to your graphics card and/or driver. As to work units being too large to be reliably finished, 48,114 fully completed standard runs and 2,043 THC (4-phase) runs suggest otherwise. Cheers. Depending on my mood I would describe the model as "fragile" or perhaps "unforgiving" but it is nonetheless the challenge that keeps me going. I have had it fail during a virus scan, during a game, when someone looged on to another account on the XP at home machine, or just because it seemed to feel like it that day. Run it on your most reliable machines. Back up the BOINC directory periodically. Don't mess with the XML files. Hoist a few when it successfully uploads. Repeat as necessary. |
