I downloaded the program okay. It took me a couple of tries, because I didn't notice the url listed to cut and paste in along with my id.
If I leave my computer alone for a minute, the screen saver pops up and says 'boinc isn't running, open program'. If I go into the program list, and click on the boinc icon, I can see the icon flicker on in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen, then disappear again.
I have a new hp, running windows xp. I have a norton firewall, and I've set it to allow boinc open access to the internet.
What am I doing wrong? SETI was never this hard...

thank you, thank you, thank you! It took me a while to remember how to maneuver in dos because the directions weren't exactly right, but I got it figured out. Now I have the self esteem boost that I need to tackle my biostatistics midterm! I may be only half a geek, but at least that half of me is pretty geeky.
