After updating my Norton Antivirus Program, I had to reboot my Windows Application. Before pushing reboot, I used the Exit in the BOINC 4.13 application, to exit BOINC. After reboot, my CPDN model, couldn't start again, and it made me so frustrated that I detached the project and decided to use SETI@home until Einstein@home official opens for public use. So please take notice of this error, because it will make even your most supportive users, very mad and in the end mean a loss of computer power. |

It's not quite clear to me what you mean "couldn't start again" - what error are you getting? I usually use 'Suspend', then 'Exit' before a reboot. I never had any problem with this method. |

I suspend, then reboot, without problems. I've also had a forced reboot twice after 2-3 second power failures, and once with a 1.5 hour power failure. All 3 times everything re-started without a problem. However, if you search the messages for "norton", I think you'll find that CP and Norton antivirus / firewall don't get along together. The people affected dropped Norton and used something else. Unfortunately, the relevant threads may have been in the "classic" Forums, which it looks like we have lost permanently. Also, CPers have lots of problems, but we find a fix, and then carry on. Les Climate Prediction: Because it matters. Backups: Here |

It just continued to loose model memory, and very rapidely declined towards 0 memory used, down from approximately 700 Mb. This is what I mean by "couldn't start again" - so as you probably can see, no matter what the model was obviously lost - anyhow, I guess thats what happen occatually, but folks just don't wan't to work on a project if it happens to often for that specific project. Well have fun and keep crunch for whatever you may feel matters. And thanks for your answers, the have made it all a little more clear to me, and maybe you're right, it might have been Norton there made a problem for my model, and there by killed my model f***ing Norton. |

Not sure i understand - are you referring to physical memory? the memory footprint of the model is aboot 50MB (no more). There must have been more information in the message tab. If the main worker program is unable to resume, it'll print out a message or give up and try again. |

And thereby, the total size used by the model. And it was that number there were declining from approximately 700 Mb to 0 - at which point I could see that the model was lost. By the way I can meantion to you, that I did not recieve any information in the message tab - the model simply got lost without a word or any description on what went on. I have never seen anything like that, not in SETI though it has it's own bugs, nor in LHC, P@h or back a while ago in Astropulse. So I guess, it maybe could have something to do with the model that I was working on - or I don't no. Thanks for your reply. It's nice to see the administrators take note of posible malfunctions in their programming or WU. |

How much free hard drive space do you have available on the drive you have boinc installed to? You need to have, I believe 350 - 700 Mb free to run a CPDN model. If you are running low on HD space archive some of the directories under bioncprojectsclimateprediction.net that have no subdirectories and are full of .zip files, ~332 Mb of them. Also the free space and model running can be influenced by the settings under your preferences tab on the website. Hope this helps DaveN PS: I am getting rid of Norton IS and going to other AV/FW software as the licences come up for renewall. too much overhead, problems, and gotchas. |
