I'm talking about the recent 9.0 on the Richter scale.

NASA's geophysicist Richard Gross working at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California, says that a shift of mass towards the Earth's center during the quake is causing the planet to spin at least by three millionths of a second faster and has made the planet to tilt about 2.5 cm on its axis.

You will enjoy the discussion on the community board that proposes, tongue in cheek, that we might change the earth's calendar perhaps to a 360 day year(as in the model). Whether doing that would be good for the climate is another matter, but it is true that the earth is slowing.

Now what is the biggest effect? Is it

a) shaking computers cause them to come up with different answers.

b) 15m change in depth of some channels affecting thermohaline circulation patterns

c) planet spinning at least three millionths of a second faster changes diurnal cycle

d) planet tilting about 2.5 cm on its axis affecting distribution of incident radiation

e) change of albedo of coastline areas as a result of tsunami.

f) something else?
