Can multiple computers share the same BOINC account? Or must I create an account for each computer I want to have participate? (I have an extra computer in my office and would like to donate its idle processing time.) |

You can have the same account ID for multiple computers. You just need to enter the information (account ID and URL) when you install the BOINC client on each PC. |

Hello and welcome Robert! You can use your account-ID on as many computers as you like. And the more they are, the more credits you'll get. And soon you'll be #1 in the leaderboards;-) But be sure, that you are allowed to do so. Some companies have restrictive policies concerning the use of their puters. Grüße vom Sänger |

I notice from your profile (nice one, BTW) that you're a bit concerned about bandwidth. Most of the time the project uses very little bandwidth, maybe a couple of kB per day. The exceptions are the initial download when you connect a new computer and the upload on completion of the job. You can seriously reduce the size of the initial download by not connecting to the project when you install BOINC. Just exit immediately then copy the following files (from the BOINC install directory) across to the new system: account_climateprediction.net projects/climateprediction.net/hadsm3* You don't need to copy the files extracted from the compressed files, but it doesn't do any harm if you do. If there's a new release another set of hadsm3* files will be downloaded, so you may want to keep your eye open for that. The final result upload is around 6MB. You can change your general preference to restrict the amount of bandwidth that BOINC is allowed to use, with independent settings for upload and download. The other thing you can do is use a tool like BoincView to give you a degree of control over when your systems connect to the servers.
