Hello. I've been crunching Climate WU for a while now, but i've never posted on this forum. Today, i took a look at my results page and came up with the following results. I have 3 computers that actively crunch for CP. Out of these 3, two are contiuously connected to the net via cable modem. The third is a laptop that I carry with me when I am out of town (quite often) therefore, it is not always on the net, but it is a significant portion of the time. However, the laptop does get turned on and off (therefore rebooted) more often than the other 2 computers. To make a short story long, out of all the results I have returned, I seem to have a large number that were returned due to client error. In Progress: 4 (one of which was lost for some reason therefore will never be returned) Over / Client Error: 5 Over / Unknown: 1 Complete successful: 1 ====================== Total: 11 out of 11 WU only one was returned successfully. Is this normal or am I doing something to mess up my results? Thank you for your help. Jim |

Wait a few seconds while BOINC stops the CPDN model, then close BOINC, then shut down your system. Shutting down your system often without suspending + closing BOINC can cause problems as when you shut down Windows, BOINC has no control over the way Windows shuts down all software (usually just by "killing" it) and thus can cause problems if data is in memory and it shuts the PC off too soon (data curruption). Hope this helps. |

In general, people who run CPDN successfully do so for successive models. There are occasional losses because of accident, and there are machines that seem to have real difficulty running it at all, probably because of hardware problems. I am surprised that you should have so little success between all three machines. I notice that in at least one case you are using the 4.62 client. This is a test version, and may not be stable. I don't know whether changing to 4.19, which is the public relaese, would present any problems but it is worth thinking about. |

Ok, I will try that. It definitely sounds probable. It will just take a lot of practice before it becomes a habit. :) Jim > > When you shut down your laptop, make sure you right click on the BOINC icon in > the taskbar and click suspend. Well, if there is a problem of CP running under 4.6x then it needs to be found and fixed. If I can help isolate that problem by running the 4.6x clients then both projects will be better off, IMHO. I appreciate your input, however. :) Thank you, Jim > I notice that in at least one case you are using the 4.62 client. This is a > test version, and may not be stable. Are you running the BOINC 4.05 version or were some of the failures on that version? That version had an error in an XML file that causes a failure on model upload. Any work units downloaded with version 4.09 or later will not have this problem. |
