When I first installed CPDN v4.02 & started running it after about 10 min's I exited the Program & when I started it back up it downloaded 2 more WU's to run. Well I've been running them ever since without exiting the Program because I'm afraid too for fear of the same thing happening. Is it possible to exit without the loss of work & new WU's being downloaded...Is there a save state file that starts the program from where you left off from or do you just have to start over each time you exit the program. As long as it takes to run one of the CPDN WU's there definitely should be one because 6-7 weeks is a long time without having to reboot or shut your computer off for one reason or another I think anyway... |

This happens about every 10 mins on my machine. Maybe when you first exited the model after 10 mins, you hadn't quite reached the first save point. Looking at the stats in your sig, you're well into the WU now so there should be no problem exiting the model and shutting down your computer. Hope this helps. |

Ok Red, that seems to be the case, I shut it down again and restarted it & it took off from where it left off. I just wanted to make sure before I tried it again...Thanks Another thing I found out a little too late was when I installed the v4.02 I had about 30 Finished Seti WU's that had already been Uploaded but not Reported yet because of the Seti Site being down, well they all got wiped out when I installed it...There should be a warning on the front page or some where about that. You should have all Finished work reported and off your PC before installing the v4.02... |

I had that happen to me, PB. ;) So what I did was uninstall the 3.xx client and install the 4.02 client to its own folder. It's still running project wise from my main BOINC folder, but at least I could exit the client & reboot before my first trickle, without the chance of needing to download another unit. As for the resetting of the projects, that's normal with a full client version change. Then again, since this client can't make contact with the SAH or PAH databases anyway, you can now just as well detach. :D -------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

Yes thats what I did on that PC Jordan, just detached from Seti & Predictor so the PC wouldn't keep trying to contact them while running the CPDN WU. I have 85 Uploaded WU's but not Reported from BOINC Seti on another PC & it's about ready to run out of WU's from there. I wonder if I leave the v3.20 BOINC installed in it's own Directory and Installed CPDN Beta v4.20 in a different Directory if that would save the WU's from the Seti Project...??? I hate to lose them also ... :( I may just run Seti Classic on that one rather than take the chance on losing them... Another curious thing I notice is when I open up the Task Manager that there are 4 instances of the intelx86.exe showing there. But it looks like only 2 of them are active. hadsm3_4.02windows_intelx86.exe (Twice Inactive) hadsm3um_4.-2_windows_intelx86.exe (Twice Active - P4 HT CPU's are kewl for running 2 at once ;) ) Can I manually End the Process for the 2 inactive ones or do they need to be in the Task Manager in order for the 2 Avtive ones to run...??? |

No, I tried that and lost them equally as fast. ;) Besides, you'll find that as soon as you even try to run the BOINC3.20 version, even if you run it directly from the folder it is installed in, that 4.02 will start up. Registry settings, I bet. Maybe that it will work if you make a seperate user account for BOINC 4.02 ... I haven't gotten that far yet. -------------------- Jordâ„¢ |

Ok Jordan, thanks for the info on that. I will just wait then until I can get them reported, thats to much time involved & to many WU's to take a chance on losing them seeing as how I've lost 30 already that way... Hopefully the Seti Site will be up today or tommorrow ... :/ and I can get them Reported then & then decide what Project to run. I kinda like the CPDN Project because once you have a WU your good to go for quite some time ... And you don't have to deal with all the Server Outages & running out of WU's from them ... What about the Inactive intelx86.exe processes running in the Task Manager, can I end them manually...???? PS: Never mind, I found out the hard way. I ended the Process on one of the Inactive ones and got a computation error on 1 WU ... D'oh ... Well at least it gave me another WU to start working on anyway ... :) |

You can think of the two 'inactive' threads as housekeepers/managers for the two active Models. They'll do the Trickles and manage end-of-Phase processing, and direct the end-of-Run file zips for the Model's archive and upload a subset of the output files. (The archive remains on your machine for possible later research.) Ok, thanks for the info astro, I figured the inactive processes where there for some reason when I got the computation error by manually stopping one of them...Thats a no no I guess ;) |
