Hello, how can i check the status of the servers on here as i have been trying for over 4 days to get work and all i get is Message from server..no work available. This is either leading me to believe that the servers have been turned off or i have done something wrong. Can someone help me please?

There is no server status page, but they are generally reliable. If they had been down for days this board would be deluged by complaints (set the board to most recent answer first to get the current messages), and I can confirm the servers are up. Difficult to say what is wrong in your case.

Can you paste a fuller extract from the messages (in stdout.txt in your BOINC folder or the messages tab of the BOINC window)?

I'm having the same problem. I signed up and attached about 5 hours ago and have been told no work is available by the scheduler since then.

I have been having the exact same problem. I have four computers. I got one to connect and download yesterday, but could not get any of the other three to connect. They all say the same "Message from server: No work available" message as from above. Plenty of space and all are connected to the net. Please help. If this project is finished, I would like to utilize my computers for another Bionic project.

I'm wondering if the people running beta BOINC ver 4.2x are chewing up work units because they require digital signatures on the files downloaded from the server. Saw this happen in the CPDN sulphur alpha project anyway. Therefore the WUs are gone before they otherwise would have been? Anyway, hope they'll generate more WUs soon.

I was about to suggest a similar thing when I scrolled down to your post George ;)

Another factor (perhaps more serious) is the 'No schedulers responded' message, particularly when it's associated with running models offline, trying to upload all trickles on completion and download a new model at the same time. It seems that pretty much every failed request results in allocation of a new model which doesn't get downloaded!

Here's an example where 47 models were 'downloaded' in 3 days - and there have been even more since then! It's all down to the problem of sending up more trickles than the server is currently handling in a single hit (see this thread).

It is just never ending and i do already have Einstein@home running and did have Seti@home but with S@H their servers were getting to be down too often to be of any value to the project. Eventually they will sort out their problems and then ill re crunch , but right now i have this little problem to sort out. If i cant sort it ill just move onto one of the other projects.
Regards.
Paul.

Thyme Lawn: That host you listed has now downloaded a grand total of 88 models since 19th February without trickling once - one would have thought that programming a 'maximum number of downloads with no trickle' would fix that..? - ie. keep the 'four a day' maximum and add another limit that also looks at trickles..?

+++

Edit1: Looks like the host owner 'pete smith' may have finally noticed something amiss yesterday, March 1st......

Edit2: I wonder how that host managed to download over 20 models on 20th February..? I thought there was a 'four-a-day' maximum..?

> Edit1: Looks like the host owner 'pete smith' may have finally noticed
> something amiss yesterday, March 1st......

A couple of days after I associated his upload problem with having loads of trickles pending and the scheduler not responding to his requests ;)

Edit2: Perhaps he hasn't taken any action. I suspect the WU pool ran out on 1st March. Tolu generated some more last night and he's used up another 5 WUs so far today :(

> Edit2: I wonder how that host managed to download over 20 models on 20th
> February..? I thought there was a 'four-a-day' maximum..?

Yes, but it appears that when you get stuck in the 'too many trickles for the scheduler to handle' loop and are starved of work you get allocated a new WU every time the request is retried. The WU never gets downloaded to your host - it just sits in limbo on the server. Thank goodness for BOINC's exponential backoff feature otherwise the WU pool would have been exhausted much faster than it was!

Hopefully the new server software that Tolu's just put in place will fix this problem.

Edit: I haven't seen you on the alternative phpBB forum Nick. A lot of the usual suspects were already there when I signed up this morning :)
