Does anybody have any experience about installing 4.25 over 4.19? Any success stories? Does 4.19 have to be uninstalled first? Are WUs lost? |

Unless they have forgotten to alter the dates, the Berkeley site says that V4.25 is both stable AND developement. Best to wait for CPDN admin to approve the release for us. Real Soon Now, I hope! Les |

With all due respect to the prior posters: "Well, here we go again"! ;-) I get the feeling these will become perennial questions!!! And sorry, Peter, but unfortunately I can't answer your questions. I tend to wait several weeks, or more, before an upgrade, 'cuz I'm too chicken to muck up my little farm, until I see a new build has some compelling reason to upgrade, and has proven itself robust. Make backup of boinc folder (example c:\program files\boinc) and install a new version to same folder. You dont must uninstall 4.19. Computation will be continued. dejv <a href="http://boinc.cz">boinc.cz</a> |

Hi Stratcat Just snuck mine in by 2 seconds! I really MUST learn to think/type/spell faster. :) The latest version may be mandatary because of the signed nature of parameter set files now. One can only hope that the admin people, (at least those who haven't migrated to New Zealand, strange that, wonder what they know?), will post notes for us all. Hint, Hint. As for me, my last model using hadsm4.04 should finish next Sunday/Monday, so I'll have a few days to watch for complaints from others. Les |

Also, has there really been some proj peeps in NZ, or are you just joking around??? It's 2:00A here in Chicago, so I'm half asleep (guess you could say I'm 'Casey Jones' at the keyboard!) ;-) Strat |

http://www.ssl.berkeley.edu/pipermail/boinc_projects/2005-March/000831.html I'm pleased to announce the 4.25 release of the BOINC client for Windows. The highlights for this release are: 1. A MSI based installer, for large scale deployments. 2. A new task based GUI which utilizes the wxWidget cross platform framework, so we could use the same GUI code for the rest of the platforms. 3. Installation options for running in the shared and service execution modes. 4. A more comprehensive set of GUI RPC's for management of the daemon. 5. Abilities to suspend/resume projects. 6. Abilities to suspend/resume results, even ones which haven't started executing yet. 7. Abilities to abort results. 8. Abilities to abort transfers. 9. Abilities to add URLs to the GUI Interface on a project specific basis. 10. Supports multiple messages returned from the scheduler. We would like to thank the Alpha testers and the various community members who reported bugs and helped us smooth out the rough edges. We are still cooking the Linux, Solaris, and Mac versions which should be showing up in the next week or so. ----- Rom BOINC Development Team Space Sciences Laboratory University of California, Berkeley |

Ooops..sorry Peter - Ertugrul was asking the 4.25 related questions, & my reply was directed towards him, in my earlier post, not you, as I erroneously posted. :-0 Thx for the detailed info, though. Time to get some sleep... Strat |

Stratcat > So I take it the new BOINC core client (4.25) also includes a change in the CPDN client??? There are 2 new versions of hadsm: 4.10 for Windows, and 4.11 for Linux. See this <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2086"> thread.</a> I got 4.10 last Sunday with a new parameter set, and have had 5 trickles so far, all successful. Going OT > Also, has there really been some proj peeps in NZ, or are you just joking around??? Mostly joking. In two other threads somewhere, Dave Frame has been on leave there for a few weeks, and Hannah has been there a week or so. Which leaves Sylvia and Tolu, if you don't count the scientists. Nice place though. Apparently it's a lot like England. Parts of the North Island reminded me of the north coast of NSW, and then we'd go past a signpost with a strange name, and I'd 'get brought back to reality' as it were. On the South Island, we went past lots of tall steep hills, with their sides covered with rock slides. The rocks were smallish, and the impression I got was that someone had pulled a plug out of the hill, and the rocks had poured out. Tasmania is also supposedly like England. I was there a few years after the NZ trip, and liked it a lot too. On the plane down there, we travelled up through brown smog over Sydney, and down through dark grey smog over Melbourne. But when we reach the northern part of Tasmania, there was just blue sky and clean air. And the water was clear, clean, and blue as well. Les |

Installed bonic 4.25 over 4.19 about 40 min ago and all is working fine so far. Just a note, I did not have any wu in cache or in progress when doing this. |

Does it mean that BOINC 4.25 downloaded hadsm 4.10 and model WU with no single glitch? <i>phpBB forum for CPDN, all are </i><a href="http://www.climateprediction.net/board">invited</a> |

Wonderful news. BOINC V4.62 is in Beta, so there'll soon be an upgrade! See post from <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2141"> Browny_NL</a> My last 'old' model finishes just after midnight Sunday/Monday, so then I'll get the chance to try BOINC 4.25, which is still not 'offical' here, but is already on it's way to being obsolete. New versions are coming faster than MS stuff. Sigh. Les |

> Wonderful news. BOINC V4.62 is in Beta, so there'll soon be an upgrade! > But they looped back from 4.66 to 4.20 so 4.62 is older than 4.25 and 4.25 is the public release of the 4.6x beta series |

> 4.62 is older than 4.25 and 4.25 is the public release of the 4.6x beta series As I understand it, version numbers 4.5x and above are reserved for development versions only. So the next upgrade will also begin life up there before appearing as ?4.30, but I'm not clear whether the development thread will begin again with 4.50 or at 4.67. Either way, we will all be confused again. |

<i>Les Bayliss Posted on 9 Mar 2005 21:13:29 UTC:</i> > See post from <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2141">Browny_NL</a> +++ <i>Note added by Stratcat:</i> The link supplied above describes a sucessful 4.19 ---> 4.25 uninstall/upgrade while transparently overlaying 4.19 model(s) in mid-run state. +++ <i>Begin reply by Stratcat</i> Well, after reading this thread I feel a little better concerning the upgrade. Up 'till now I wasn't sure if a mid-run model folder needed to be Copied/Saved/Replaced. Apparently it doesn't require replacement, if all goes as expected. This was somewhat of an issue for me, since I've got 6 Hyperthreaded P4's running a total of 12 models. This means I never have a machine that's not somewhere in mid-run, due to 2 concurrent runs per cpu. Now I feel somewhat relieved that there shouldn't be any additional probs involved by having to manually replace models in mid-run status. Nice find. Thx, Les. Strat |

I updated with no problem having just started a new run. The problem I have is with visualization. See <a href="http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_thread.php?id=2141"> this thread</a>. Forum search Site search |
