Strat, I have 4 like that my ownself, but the, save folder, un-install 4.19, install 4.25 worked fine, no models aborted on any machine and several were in the VERY late stages ... As a matter of factt I think two of them just completed and I have 3 more in the next week. Even better news for me is that the new motherboard I put into one of my "shakey" machines will now allow me to run all projects on all machines again. :) |

Both viz work fine on my P4 3.2 HT; one still with 4.04, the other with 4.10 I like the new W option. I just looked again. The heat built up across Africa and below Asia, and then a small hot spot appeared in NW Brazil. You can't see this at one time in the old viz. Les |

Crandles, Thanks for that. It explains things. I think. Les |

Now I feel even more confident! BTW - Have you noticed any differences in crunching time (I know this can be difficult to quantify/ascertain)??? Strat /Man, I really wish this board did attr lines or embedded quote attr's... :-o |

Wow. I really like the new "manager" look. :) <a href="http://www.spreadfirefox.com/?q=affiliates&id=11460&t=79"><img src="http://sfx-images.mozilla.org/affiliates/Buttons/88x31/get.gif"></img></a> |

Strat, > Thanks for the reply. Now I feel even more confident! You are welcome. > BTW - Have you noticed any differences in crunching time (I know this can be > difficult to quantify/ascertain)??? I am not sure ... and my data baseline is too short to be sure. I just feel happy to be able to do work for all 5 projects. |

1. Where can you download Bionic v4.25 newest version? everywhere i look on this site still says Bionic v4.19 is the latest version i can download? 2. i'm running v4.19 already, if no major feature change i'll stick with v4.19 for now (i'm just days from finishing my very 1st CP Bionic project, so change to v4.25 would be a good time, if this new update has new major features...) |

> Hi, > > Boinc V4.25 Stable Windows Version Released at > http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php > > > I was trying to install v4.25 after uninstalling 4.19. My problem is that the installer is requiring me to have a password for my account. I do not have a password and I don't think the installer should require one when the account does not have one. I will set a password so it will install. I will then go into the service and set it to run as a local system account (why the installer doesn't allow this option I'm not sure). I've been reading about this problem since v4.19 (maybe even earlier). Thanks. |

Typing "System" as user and leaving both pwd-fields blank doesn't work? |

> Typing "System" as user and leaving both pwd-fields blank doesn't work? > The installer seems to require a password to instal BOINC as a service. And I don't think that putting in a dummy will work either, as I recall that Windows will reject login attempts using a password if there is none set (normal login avoids this, but it arises when logging in using the command line). |

> The installer seems to require a password to instal BOINC as a service. And I > don't think that putting in a dummy will work either. It has to be a valid account and password. The last thing the installer does is try to start the service, and if the password is invalid (or, as happened to me, gets mangled by the installer because it uses the extended character set) the start fails and the installation gets rolled back. > into the service and set it to run as a local system account (why the > installer doesn't allow this option I'm not sure). I've been reading about It doesn't use LocalSystem by design, as a safety precaution. If it were to use that account, then BOINC and the underlying science app would have elevated privleges on your system, which as a default is no go. Nothing stopping anyone from changing it after installation though, but if something goes wrong (i.e. you get hacked by a dodgy project application), the finger of blame points away from the system designers. That's the theory anyways. |
